Default ECU Compatibility.

Has anyone heard of reprogramming a S Type R Ecu to work in a 2005 Xjr. My Ecu is dead and I need a replacement but I am struggling to find a second hand example. I have been without the car for over a year now and I am missing the power and comfort of the pain in the *** lol.

There are some guys in Sittingbourne who may be able to repair it.

How to contact BBA Reman - United Kingdom | BBA Reman

They have moved to Rochester since I left Kent ten years ago.
Let us know how you get on.

Tried most Ecu repair shops I could find on the net but no one can test ecu off car. I may have a number of a fellow coming soon who can come to my house.

Look for a XJR ECU from 2004 - 2006 (before VVT was reintroduced into the 4.2 engine)

Hi, did you manage to get a suitable solution to your ecu problem? I'm looking for a spare ecu for my 2005 XJR.

I was very lucky. One became available in the Usa on Ebay with virtually identical numbers so I snapped it up. It does work I've just got to re programme from my old Ecu.I think it will be a case of just keep looking.Good Luck.

Wow, good for you. At least I now know that the USA LHD has the same ECU type as the RHD ones. I'll keep a look out. Always good to have a backup for these critical electronics.

Can I check, you said that the new used one worked. So what was it that didn't work that required reprogramming and what did you need to use to do the reprogramming? Will the IDS work for reprogramming?

I plugged into my car just to see what happened and it primed the fuel pumps which it would not do with the knackered ecu. I have still to get the Vid number off the old ecu onto the replacement ecu so it will talk to the rest of the car ecu''s.I believe this will probably have to be done by a dealer or someone with the necessary software. My original ecu was damaged by water ingress make sure the scuttle drains are nice and clear.

OK, thanks. Best of luck. If you can let me know when you manage to get it done it will be greatly appreciated.
