Default Engine ticking

I hate to start yet another thread on this, but a search didn't yield my particular situation. 2005 VDP with 60k miles. All is well but it seems once the car is warm, I get a ticking sound from close to the firewall. It is quite noticeable from inside the car with radio & blower turned off. It is barely noticeable upon opening the hood & listening. As best as I can tell, it does NOT vary in speed with RPM's. Here's the best part: after turning off & restarting at idle, it goes away. It idled for one minute, I slightly goosed the throttle & it came back, same speed & everything. Is there something that triggers above a certain rpm? Again, seems to be coming from close to the firewall & does not seem to vary with engine speed. What, in the engine bay, does not vary speed with the engine?
Many thanks.

Purge valve? Can you elaborate? Mine also makes this ticking noise, and the Mechanic did not recognize the sound.

My car makes a ticking noise upon cold startup. It lasts for awhile, then dissipates as it leaves the startup behavior phase. I do my best to ignore it, telling myself that it's most likely a lifter(s) that needs to get some oil in it, or an accessory that needs some operating time to get lubricated.

But this is probably unrelated to your issue.

You didn't hit the self-destruct button (next to Valet Mode) by mistake did you?

Ha! Dude, I just read your post after I commented about the valet mode switch post. Check out my recent post. Too funny. I see you're around columbus. We were at the tanger outlet stores this weekend. Met up with an old friend who brought us Raising Cane chicken. Small world, huh?

It is a small world. Whenever I see another XJ8 on the road, I wonder if they are members here.

Next time you are in Jeffersonville, you need to stop by and visit my friend Rich at Werner's Smokehouse it is some of the best BBQ in the state. They are right across the street from the outlets (south), next to the hotels. We see Rich every other month or so when we visit the OGCA show at the Robert's Center a couple of exits south. I can't drive by without stopping for a brisket sandwich.
