Default EPB Fault, 'Cannot engage park brake'

2007 XJ Sovereign. Following a partial battery discharge and attempted engine start the battery was charged overnight and the car drove normally. At the filling station the park brake locked on but cleared itself, the car drove normally then the following day the EPB was locked on. Bridging the terminals as outlined by Quikcat released the brake and while the car drives normally the flashing lights, gongs and fault messages spoil the ambience in the cabin ! Operating the EPB switch yields no response.

The Autel shows codes C1785-00 and SCP(J1850) coms bus fault.
Any clues or advice gratefully received.
With thanks - Tony.

See the attached schematic with fuse feeds. There are 4 fuses to check associated with the EPB. I would do that, and also do a battery reset as joeleerj suggested.

C1785 is described as "Parkbrake motor output open circuit" which could be a bad connection to the EPB motor.

When you did the "jump to release" did you disconnect the EPB from the vehicle harness? If not, it is possible the EPB module has been damaged by feeding back voltage into the unit. But start with the basics and see what you have.

Very many thanks, I did disconnect the epb from the harness and I have again done the battery re-set. I shall now check the fuses.

With my thanks - Tony.
