Default Fog lights front and rear and dimmer

Howdy all!
I rarely post my own issues with our 2005 XJ8L as it has been pretty darned reliable...but stuff happens.
I had just finished the rear brakes recently, when I noticed (likely total coincidence) that the Fog lights front and back no longer come on with the button press. Curious as to why both would fail, I checked the dash light dimmer switch since it is also on the same cluster switch. Also not working.

Do I just remove the coin cup below it to get to the connector? Is there possibly something else that would cause all 3 to fail to work before I check that connection? Where do those go if the connector is still intact?

Happy cruising!

Not sure if it is your problem, but check the wires in your turn stalk. Couple recent posts on the subject. Internal wires break and cause all sorts of light issues.

You can remove the stalk and open it up to see if you have wire breakage - should take all but 30 minutes. Other than a fuse, it is the first place I would look.

There are a couple on eBay with front and back views. Appears there is a tab on top which should be depressed then rocked out. Look at the pictures, that is how it looks like to me.

Thanks for the reply!
The turn signal stalk has full functionality: turn signals, lights and various modes, bright/dim.
It is the switch on the lower left which shares the cluster with the fuel/trip computer modes that is failing to work, though the computer buttons work.
Since all three fail to work (front fog lights, rear fog lights, dash dimmer rotary switch), I'll try a full module reset first (disconnect and touch the battery cables together for a bit). If that doesn't work, I'll have to dig into the electrical diagrams and see if I can track down a grounded wire or such (after verifying all fuses and relays).

fog lights and dimmer not working (this is not my jag, just a similar unit, probably from an S model)

After doing a full reset (still no joy), I discovered that the dimmer rotary was only working for the center console (is that normal?), but the fog lights are still dead. I then checked the light stalk again and noticed that the brights (forward position) are not working. Flash-to-pass still does though, and has been "sticky" anyway, so I am taking your advice and getting a new turn signal/light stalk.

You were right to look into the turn signal/light switch, though no broken wires were present. The unit itself had gone bad.

ALL GOOD!

"The Stalker" seems to be at it again.

Glad you got it solved. Better you followed up as now the list of impacted items can be expanded.
