Default Front crankshaft oil seal replacement

Are their any tricks to replacing the front crankshaft oil seal on a 2005 Jaguar XJR to avoid dismantling a lot of "stuff" in front of the engine?

The transmission is out so I can tilt the engine rear down some what.

I do not want to take the radiator out etc. Would there be any other source of an oil leak on the front of the engine?

You're gonna have to at least remove the fan/shroud.

John, bottom of timing cover is another area.

If so, it's a PITA to replace. (And you'll be removing tons of items to access)

Check oil cooler lines also..

Yes. That would not be too bad.

I have read where it can be difficult getting the pulley off.

The build up of oily dirt in this area has happened over 15 years. I see no evidence of a bad leak so far.

I just replaced the crankshaft pulley/damper and front engine cover. Getting the pulley off was not that bad, however, I do have the Factory puller and a dead blow hammer. Here is a pic of mine. As you can see the radiator was not removed.

Thank you that is good to know.

Why did you have to do that work?

My crankshaft pulley/damper separated and damaged the front cover. See my post. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...advice-225523/

Wow that is quite something in deed!

Good job on your part and a very useful post, for me at least.

Thanks! The work itself wasn't all that bad, I just had to find time and waiting for tools and parts..
