Does anybody have a suggestion on how to stop the front passenger door ashtray from popping open too easily?

Since nobody smokes in our household, maybe there is a simple way to block it off or replace it with something useful?

Not that this helps but mine have always done the same thing even though they are never used. I think it is just how they are manufactured, not all that well.

 

Mine too! Same side, same door. Makes me so glad that's all I got to worry about.

 

Same here. Lift the lid all the way up and then press down; it catches better.

 

I hadn't noticed it myself, but my husband was recently in the car with me, in the passenger seat, and he commented that everytime he got in my car, the passenger side ash tray was open.

I'll try the trick of lifting the lid all the way up and then pressing down.

 

mine, too. and i thought it would be only me, suprised to see so many of you guys have same problem.

 

lol - it's always the simple things! Lift up ALL THE WAY, this pushes out the latch further to catch the tray's latch once it's closed. This is a design flaw. I hope someone got fired for this stupidity!

 

I know my husband gets annoyed with these sorts of fixes, but it works. We would never use them for ash trays and it keeps children from putting gum wrappers inside.

 

I was getting quite upset that everbody was fiddling with the ashtray, now I know they were just trying to close it,lol.
Damn, how may cars have this many ashtrays???
