Fuel Pump Relay
Trying to get the $70 of gas out of the trashed 2004 XJ8.
Disconnected the fuel line at the rail, fitted a hose over that and directed it to the fuel can.
How do I get the fuel pump to run non-stop? It primes for a few seconds when the key goes to position II, and cranking the engine will get it running, but the starter is not going to last long enough to move 17 gallons.
I tried pulling the relays out of the engine compartment fusebox, thinking R6 was the one, but tried all the others and the pump still primed as the key went to position II.
I then pulled each one in turn, including the three in the boot, but the pump continues to prime suggesting none of the relays is the one powering it.
Does this car use a relay, or do I need to take out the back seat and find the cabling to the pump and add 12V there?

Thanks, that worked fine.
Removed back seat squab, the four hidden latches are turned anticlockwise and out it comes.
Supplied positive power to the yellow wire, negative to the red wire and it ran fine.
Moved 17 gallons, 5 gallons at a time , and then poured it into the new XJ8, my daughter is happy to get her gas back :-)

Glad it worked out, cooldood!
I realize that you may not have been worried about destroying your fuel pump, but for future readers of this thread, be aware that the fuel pump is driven by a pulse width modulated (PWM) signal from the Rear Electronic Module (REM). In the supercharged cars, the second fuel pump is PWM driven by the Fuel Pump 2 Module.
It is always prudent to take care when directly powering with direct current a device designed for a PWM modulated signal. Damage to the device can occur.
One option for draining the tank if one doesn't want to risk damage to the fuel pump is to simply remove the fuel pump collar and lift it up so you can feed a siphon hose into the tank and either siphon the fuel or use a fuel transfer pump. You can do the same thing on the other side of the saddle tank by removing the collar and lifting up the sender/jet pump or second fuel pump.
Cheers,
Don
