Yikes! Sorry for your luck, and I admire you good humor. And pardon me if I'm stating the obvious, but please don't drive it.

You know what we say in the business, "nothing lasts forever"!

Seriously though, could you tell what was leaking, like perhaps the cap was left loose at PDI or something along those lines? I really would like to know when you get the problem sorted if you don't mind. You never know when some machine at the factory decides to put hose clamps on in the wrong position and there could be 200 cars out there with the same problem.

got word from the jag dealer today...apparently the radiator hose was somehow improperly installed at the factory and under hard acceleration, when the engine moves up a little, the hose would come in contact with one of the pulleys and that caused it to tear and leak...does that make sense? seems like a totally freak thing to happen...hopefully this is the end of problems for some time....

I would believe it. I had an XF last week that had the power steering hose misrouted at the factory and it rubbed on the a/c pulley and was cut through at 300 miles. It sounds like one of those one time things. I check all XFs for the steering hose thing but I've yet to see another with the problem and its probably the same with your XJ.

Back in my day, that would count as two PDI missfires.

Without seeing the XJ in question I couldn't say one way or the other. The XF on the other hand was caused by a failed cheesy plastic fir tree fastener they are using to hold the power steering hose in place and it most likely came out during driving. Why they would use a simple plastic fir tree to hold a flexing(especially turned on the lock) power steering hose is beyond me but rest assured i check everyone every time I have the hood open.

My bad, that certainly isn't a PDI missfire. I was thinking the hose was routed wrong. Events like that are great to know, it's bound to show up again and like you said it's always worth putting an eye on.
