Default Heads Off !

Can the heads be removed in situ. Or is it better/easier to remove the engine. I don't have a ramp but do have an engine crane.

What engine, the V8 ? Usually there isn't a problem removing cylinder heads with the engine in the car, but often things like manifold and exhaust clamp bolts need access from below, so better if you have a ramp, or inspection pit.

OK, so I think my comment still stands. I think you will need to get underneath the car to undo certain things, the exhaust manifolds are the obvious parts. I don't think any workshops would take the engine out, but they have full-Monty ramps and so on.

Thanks for your reply. Have you actually done the job is what I'm asking really.
I know in theory they should come off. But sometimes jobs are easier when tackled a different way from JTIS or which ever other guidance you are using.

Its good to hear from people who have actually carries out these jobs. Thanks again.

I've never taken the heads off an X350 V8, but I have done jobs on other Jaguars incl head removal, but these were straight six engines. V8s with their 90degree bank angle mean the exhaust manifolds are hidden below each head to a large degree, hence my comment about their accessibility.

Hopefully somebody will come on here who has actually done the job.

I've never done it, but seeing as you have to access the rear spark plug through a "hatch"...I seriously doubt there would be room to pull the heads with the engine in the car!
