What purpose does it really serve? I notice no difference with it installed or removed.

 

In acoustical aplications, a Helmholtz resonator is usually a tube used to tune a subwoofer box. An irregularly shaped enclosure like this is more typical of a simple sealed enclosure using all the available space. Where is this mounted?

 

It is a pipe off the intake just before it enters the Throttle body. Sat front and center in front of engine cover and just behind radiator.

 

Does anyone know the purpose of this appendage off the intake tubing?
