Default Help 2004 Transmission fault

looking a purchasing a 2004 xj8 vdp. Drives beautifully at all speeds.
Accept when at around 70 mph when using the kick down. It feels like it changes down too many gears. 6500 rpm. If seems to try and change gears but slips. Transmission fault. Light comes on. Goes into 3rd gear and won’t change. Stop and cycle the ignition puts light out and trans operates normally.
It only does it when pinning the gas pedal to the plot. It drives normally otherwise. It’s got a 120000 Miles full service history up to 100,000 at jaguar. I can pick it up pretty cheap but can’t afford to do a transmission. Hoping it’s some thing cheap. Lol

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X350 forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

Has the gearbox pan/filter and fluid ever been changed? The ZF 6HP26/28 responds well to having a service performed.

You can service it yourself, or have a Jaguar specialist perform the work.

Here is a listing for the oil change and service parts:

Oil change kit for 6HP26/28/32

I will try and get the codes read on wednesday and look for advice on if I should go ahead and buy it. I've an 901 xj8 and a 04 xj8 Base. This 04 VDP is in fantastic condition and would love to own it! Thank you for your suggestions. I appreciate the help

I think you will need a specific Jaguar reader. I do not think Jaguar dealer service the transmission. Its a gamble but you might win big.
