Default Help with B2291 or Flash Code 17

Hello from Florida, USA,

I have a 2006 XJ8 Base Model, it's been in the family since it was new. Used to be my mom's car.

For about two years I've had had the air bag light come on. It did go away for a few weeks once and then came back on. Now it's rare for it not to come on. Even though I have seen a couple of posts on this issue I thought I would ask for any opinions and maybe some updated information, maybe there are more owners now that can report their solution. Below is all the troubleshooting I've done so far. I could take it to the dealer, but I've lost faith on my local Jaguar dealer due to a bad experience.

My next move will probably be to purchase a replacement Occupancy Sensor Module on e-bay. If somebody can chime in on my concerns, I'd really appreciate it. At the end I'll list the troubleshooting I have done so far.
  • If a new module is inserted, does it need to be programmed to the car?
    • I've seen different ones on EBay, some have the Ford logo?
  • Once the seat is taken out, is the module in plain sight?
  • The Jaguar Part number is 12224989 or C2C3921 for the Base XJ8?
  • I saw in one of the documents posted in a related post, that Jaguar says all parts must be changed when one part fails ? Can I still change just change the Module, without having to get the other parts?
Troubleshooting I've Done So Far
  • Air Bag Light Flashing Code 17
  • Scanner Reports Code B2291
  • iCarSoft Screen Said:
    • State: Current Occupant position system state, front passenger side
  • All occupancy sensors in headliner are working, (used paper roll to hear them working)
  • Had Seat Taken Out and all Contacts cleaned with electrical contact cleaner.
  • With iCarSoft Scanner LR v 2.0 - I was able to see that system knows when someone is sitting on the passenger seat.
  • Got a Trickle Charger and a Voltage Reader to ensure battery is at 12 votls or more.
  • I bought a new battery about a year ago, thinking it might be due to a bad battery.

Thanks in advance for any help.
Frank

Add an 'h' to the beginning of the link to make it work.
Cut and paste can sometime leave you a bit short changed.
