Holiday in Germany
Got back last Sunday night after a holiday in Germany, (the Rheintal for those that know it). Set the trip on leaving our driveway, and on return the computer showed 28.7 mpg for the 2535 miles. On the outward journey, the trip showed 560 miles on arrival at our holiday accommodation, and 32mpg ! However pottering about this area of Germany on local roads saw this figure slowly decrease.
On holiday I tend to avoid the autobahns as they are full of trucks and increasingly a load of roadworks. Much of this is to widen them to 3 lanes in each direction as so many are two lanes only. Not many people seem to go much over the recommended 130 kph limit, but a few did come past us at a very high speed, I would estimate at nearly double our 80mph. A bit stupid really as only a few miles up the road was a road works site with a 70kph limit that went on for about 10 miles ! 70kph is about 40 mph.
Anyways, thought a couple of pics would be nice. One is the paddle ship 'Goethe' built 1913, we had yet another trip on her, but sadly no longer steam, being diesel-hydrauloic since 2009. The second is of a castle in the middle of the Rhine at Kaub, the famous Burg Pfalzgrafenstein, used to collect tolls off the poor barge owners. Finally our car on the Assmanshausen-Lorch ferry. There are no bridges across the Rhine between Mainz and Koblenz, (40 odd miles), and the ferry companies don't want any, obviously !!

When I read the post I forgot you lived in England and thought how did you get the mileage in a jet doh
Living in Australia we don't get to go to many other country's by driving our cars unless you count Tasmania by car ferry as another country LOL
but the place is big enough anyway LOL
Awesome photos
