So I tried again

1. Open the driver's door
2. Hold the high beam
3. Insert key and turn to position 1
4. immediately flash 4 times and hear the beep 1 time
5. I pressed any button once(beeps) quickly turn off the ignition (beeps) and close the door.
Seems the program was successful but the module doesn't hold the programming longer than a few seconds after reprogramming? are both my keys broken then? i put new batteries in both FOB

very puzzled!!

At step five did you press any key on both FOBS the one in the ignition and the other not in the ignition?

If you did not then one FOB should be working and the other will not be working.

When you get to the point of pressing any button to program the FOB in the ignition you press any key on the other FOB immediately and should then have both FOBs programmed.

It looks like you did that from your earlier post?

Are you flashing the lights four or five times?
I think it should be five.

Five times as fast as possible. It took me several times to get it to work.

Default more fob issues

I have been working on this for a few days now. My fob stopped working last week - XJR 2004. Had it happen before ( 6 months ago) and bought a replacement off Ebay and reprogrammed it ok. This time, bought another off Ebay, and went through the stages outlined - got the beeps in the right places. I also did it with the original fob. It seems to code ok, but only worked ONCE. Then it seems to lose the coding. BUT what is odd is that if you then drive the car it will allow it to be locked remotely just once. SO it seems to keep the coding but only work sporadically. FYI I only have one working key.

Am very confused now as I have I think eliminated human error or fob issue. So any ideas?!!! Its a real PITA as I have a young child and need to get her into a car seat in the rear. Assume it is car-related so where can I start looking/. Cant afford trip to the dealer with this one just yet! Help much appreciated.

as an update to this....

I just disconnected battery on another matter - error code for gearbox - and the remote now works again. So try the disconnect, hold pos and neg together for a few seconds and reconnect route before buying more remotes on Ebay!

Lots of used Jaguar keys and remotes on Ebay that hold up well.

My 2005 X350 key fob quit working. After installing new battery for dead one I reprogrammed remote several times (using your great directions & advice). Now all the buttons work except lock button. I suspect fault in switch/board and will probably live with this for a while and then buy another fob to see if it will work. Does this sound reasonable?? Thanks.
