Installing replacement NaV DVD question
I have ordered the 2012 Denso Nav DVD for my 05 X350. Is there anything special about installing it, or do I simply remove the old one and insert the replacement?
If you are installing an original Navteq Jaguar Navigation disc than installation for this disc is just a simple case of turning on the ignition and removing your old disc and inserting the new disc; your firmware will auto update and takes just a few minutes. The firmware process actually updates the "loading.ini" file that is retained inside the memory chip in the Navigation unit itself. Once complete you will have the most up to date map and poi data.
Some people claim this is the process for copied discs.
Turn on ignition and load DVD Map.
2) Right after DVD Map load, turn off ignition and remove key for at least 30 seconds.
If you have the navigation screen you will see it loading and when completed.
3) Re-insert ignition key and turn on engine.
4) Wait 5-10 minutes and update will be now working
5) Done

The first of two updated DVDs arrived today. After inserting it and setting the ignition key to position 1, a message came up "Reading DVD." After 30 minutes the same message was still there. I am thinking that, despite the seller's eBay description, that this was a copied disc as opposed to a genuine new one. What leads me to this conclusion is that the same seller re-listed the same DVD. Since they are not a parts supplier, it makes me wonder as to how they would have more than one in their possession in the first place. I also see that this seller sells navigation DVDs for other makes and models. I have initiated a return request. Luckily I only pad $30.00.
My second 2012 DVD from NAVDVDMAPS.com is supposed to arrive tomorrow. That too is supposed to be an original and will work in my car. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Graham,
I just ordered my new disk from NAVDVDMAPS.com also. Haven't received it yet.
Please let us know how their disk works.
Thanks
Mark

I received the new disc from NAVDVDMAPS.COM, and it installed just fine. Just remember to leave the ignition on position 1 during the installation. It takes a few minutes. I noticed that while it was installing that the exterior temperature appeared on the small display screen even thought the A/C was not running. After the install was complete, it no longer showed the exterior temp. I wish the system would display the ext temp even when the A/C is not running. I also found out that the previously stored destination and waypoints are no longer there. I was kind of hoping that they would have been on a separate SD card or something like that. As it is, I have to gradually re-enter my old destinations and waypoints. No big deal.

Graham,
Are you saying that the ext temp only displays when the a/c is on, or only when the engine is running? It seems that it should always be displayed when the engine is running, dispite a/c or heat only is on. That is how mine displays with the original disk. It seems sort of stupid to only display when using the a/c.
Please let us in on some more details/differences (other issues with NAVDVDMAPS.COM. disk).
Still waiting on my disk from NAVDVDMAPS.COM.
Thanks
Mark

The external temp only shows when the A/C is running. If the engine is running, but the a/c is turned off, then the ext temp does not show. It was the same way with the original DVD that came with the car. What was totally weird was that the ext temp displayed while the DVD was installing during which time neither the a/c nor engine was running.
