Default interior lighting weird

Hi: Just got this car yesterday 04 xj8 and the foot lights come on when door is opened but none others unless... If the rear map upper light is pushed on, it comes on dimly UNLESS the main interior light button is pushed in overhead console. There is all sorts of weird interaction between footlights and maplights which sometimes will come on dimly UNLESS other buttons are pushed in weird sequences. Is this just a blown interior lighting control module? Where is that located in the car? I have not yet gotten the JTIS for this car and plan on trying to do that soon. Meantime, hoping someone has been here and done this. Thank you. --Tom in Tucson AZ

Answering myself with an update...and hoping someone has more knowledge. The Front Electronic Module near the hood release (USA) seems to be the device in control of interior lighting. I am reluctant to disconnect and reconnect it lest I lose all lights including headlights. Only the interior lighting is acting weird; exterior is fine. If anyone has experience with this box causing problem like this, thank you for assistance.
