I had one piece of chrome window trim (C Pillar) that started to cloud, replaced under warranty.

My chrome window trim is also cloudy. I will ask the dealer to replace it under warranty.

Default Door handle on 04 xjr

I was cleaning my car on Sunday and I noticed that the chrome on the rear passenger side door handle was lifting. Any idea what a replacment will cost?

This is all very interesting, because I have a Rover 75 with as much chrome trim as the old Mark 2 Jaguars, incl bodyside strips and door handles, grill, bootlid trim, screen surrounds etc etc. All of it is perfect and car is 9 years old. The old chromed Mazak castings of the 60s and 70s used to pit, but not peel.

I have looked at two UK XJs to see what I might be able to buy with the money I have available, (the model with the aluminium-body) and their chrome was all perfect, one on 50k and the other on 88k miles. I did look at an S-Type at a dealer on Sunday at 63k and the polished stainless steel side window trims were clouded over; I have never seen this before, maybe the trim has a plastic cover over the stainless steel, and water has got underneath.

I don't suppose the parts will be expensive, just a pain to fit

No chrome problems here. Do you live in a part of the country that has a lot of salt on the roads in the winter?

Hello,
I have just noticed my window chrome trims are cloudy on my 2008 XJ8L.
Will the dealer replace them under warranty?

The trim around the tail lights on my 04XJ has been coming loose since it had 30k miles. I keep trying to wedge it back in however it doesn't stay. I was planning to have the dealer replace it at some point however I have no idea of the cost.

A few points so you will be better prepared to talk with your dealers. Most of the components mentioned in this post are not chrome, they are either stainless steel or anodized aluminum. The window, door and roof finishers are especially susceptible to clouding from harsh cleaning chemicals and industrial fallout like acid rain. If you are putting the car through the local auto wash you may want to have them pay for the replacement as the chemicals they are using is most likely causing most of the problem. Most dealers are going to refuse replacement under warranty unless the car has less than 12,500 miles because this is a cosmetic problem most often caused by circumstances beyond Jaguars control. When this car first came out it was supplied with the same de-cos chemical used on every other Jag up until then. It was found that the chemical was causing clouding of the trim. Jaguar changed the instructions for use of this chemical to avoid future damage including dilution 50/50 with water and advising that it not be applied to the trim.

There is a repair kit for the chrome trim on the tail lights. It's just a heavy duty adhesive but it does require removal of the lamp assmblies to apply it properly.

The 2004 I bought recently had acid rain type stains on the roof finishers and window trims. I found that a decent paint cutting compound and some elbow grease has taken it back to shiny again.

I then put some polish over the top in the hope that it will stop the process happening again any time soon.

My 2004 XJR window trim was cloudy also. I used fine steel wool and Mother's mag polish. And alot of rubbing just use masking tape around edge so not to mark up your paint. This worked the best for me. I tried everything i could think of.
Good Luck.

Purchased a 2007 S Type in June with 13k miles on it. Almost perfect condition EXCEPT for the trim around the doors, which was very cloudy. I've tried Zaino, Mothers, Meguairs, etc. Bought some Simichrome off eBay. That seemed to help some but it still took a lot of elbow grease for a very small area. The next time I wash the car I'll use a Dremel rotary tool and gently go over the trim with a cloth brush attached. The Dremel throws bits of the Simichrome everywhere even on the lowest setting. I'll let you know if that worked. I took the car to the local dealer and showed them the problem. The guy there said to come back and talk with one of the painters to see if they knew of any tricks. Haven't been back on that side of town but I'll also post the results of that visit.

I also have the clouding issue on my 07 XJ8L. Was given a tip by a detailer that works well for me. Afer washing. spray a little WD40 on a rag and wipe over the chrome. It takes the cloudiness away and looks like new.....until the next wash.
