Jag key replacement
I have a 2004 xjr and it only came with one key. Does anyone know of a way to get the new key and integrated fob anywhere besides the dealer or at some better pricing than the usual local dealers? Dealer quoted me about $500 and I had to go there with the vehicle to have it synched with the system.

Would still need to be cut and not everyplace can cut these security keys as they are a very special type. Still there are places that can do it in the bigger city urban areas.
The programming can be done by a Jag dealer but it can also be done in other ways and several are listed in the forum so do a search in the download section.

You can easily do this for under a $150. I was able to buy a used fob from ebay, here is an example
Jaguar NHVWB1U241 Factory Keyless Entry Remote Flip Key Valet Cut | eBay
Be sure to check the key fob is from a USA donor vehicle as european cars use a different key frequency.
I then bought a replacement cut blade from this ebay source
Jaguar Flip Blade Car Key Replacement Cut for Remote Fob XJ XJR x s Type | eBay
They are really good supplier and cut the keys using your key code, easy to work out of you dont have the code, and its simple to install into your donor fob.
Now you can open the car with key/fob buttons however you won't be able to start the car because of the PATS security. You have to program the new key to match your existing. A dealership can do this for $$'s or you can get a SDD mongoose clone and do it yourself.
Read this for clone scanners

Also this for other XJ owners who use a clone scanner me included

Grio,
I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X350 forum.
Please post model specific questions in the appropriate tech forum.

Thanks, helpful links and info. As I only have one key, can't readily send it out to be matched for cutting, but will see if there is a way to get a code from the key or fob to have one made. I am headed to San Jose today to see if the one locksmith I was told "might" be able to make one. Otherwise, it seems buy a fob and get a code and send them out, then to the dealer for programming is the likely process. My local dealer in Monterey, Ca. said $500 for a new key and fob....that was a tough number to swallow...
