So I finally stumble across what's going on with my car. I found the CD changer wasn't working and I just found the integration cables in the glove box. So I'd have to remove the ACM to regain changer function? I'm not going to, I think I may actually use the ACM. Question though, if I get a lightning adapter for the 30 pin, will a later iPad or iPhone 5 work with the system?

Not sure what integration cable you mean, but to test the cd changer, turn the car off, flip the switch on the ACM, then restart the car. You should now have CD changer instead of ACM. The car has to be off for the switch to work. Your iPhone will work, but except for stepping through the tracks/playlists, you'll have to control it from he phone.

I have a 2002 X Type and bought a second hand ACM. Fitted it in about an hour. I use it for a Sirius radio fed using the RCA jacks. I did update the firmware because when I used to listen to my iPhone it wouldn't let me control it through the phone. The firmware fixed that.
The Sirius power was fed to an empty fuse in the box under the dash. I had a lot of engine noise but two in-line noise reduction things took care of that. I used the strips shown to connect to my ashtray. It demolished the ashtray, but fits well. I had to have my local Jag guy re-program the radio to recognize the ACM. That took around 5 minutes!
I'm buying a 2004 XJ8 and plan to take the ACM out and install it into the new car. Hopefully the install will be as straight forward as the X Type.
