Cinci,

I agree. When I bought my first Jag in the early 70s it was a revealition to discover the price of OEM parts. It has not changed. Then as now there were folks who made a good living sourcing and selling OEM parts new, used and refirbed. Back then we did not have the internet so it was a time consuming job to keep early unreliable Jags running at a reasonable cost. Also, I might add, we did not have internet sites like this one.

So what you do is get plugged into the after market network and you can do quite nicely. The problem is "you got to love it".

I am new to jag ownership and I am generally finding the same thing. Also, I have noticed that there are a lot of parts where you have to buy an entire assembly instead of an individual piece or something like that. I did just buy an entire thermostat housing assembly. two housings+thermostat+tempsending unit, all assembled and it was only $105. I thought it was going to be an $800 part. However, I think this was priced this way for some unknown reason. I have gone to the dealer parts counter only 2 times and each time, I seem to be the only one in the dealership. Maybe this will tell them something. The economic boom is over!!!!

Its all relative, and perhaps a bit higher than most cars. For example, my mom's air conditioning system in her Lincoln LS was giving her problems, fan control was all screwed up...hot on one side, cold on the other, then it would switch...very erratic. Dealer price...$800. They changed her rear tail lamp bulb for like $50. I'd say we're not the only ones getting hosed.

Well a new hood for my jaguar would cost me about 600 dollars. A new hood for a viper? 30,000. my friend had a truck back into his hood, and didnt leave a note. when he went to viper, it was going to cost him 30,000 for a new hood!!!! even a decent used one costs about 20,000. He bought a damaged hood from a wrecked viper for 15,000, and used both of them to make a new one. Now THATS frekin expensive!!!!

As h20 stated, it's all relative . Jaguar is not a cheap car and it makes sense why the parts are expensive .
You know what , service costs was 600 Pullman (Grosser ) equal to VW Gold pardon Golf .
I saw a Ferrari f355 bill more than $ 30K which is outrageously expensive .
However I still insist that MB's S Class and Bimmer 7 cost you more in regards to the parts .
May be car manufacturers take this :
If you can afford to buy a premium car , you can afford parts

Cool

Suck it up ......it's only money. I just put $8,000 worth of brakes on my Mack Vision tractor. It's all the same everywhere you turn.
