I have been in heaven with my 2005 XJR since finding it last year after a three-year search. Since then I have had the immense pleasure of driving it on several long cruises between our house in Austin TX and my fiancee's parents' house in Brownsville (about 350 miles), as well as two runs to visit my own parents in Georgia (about 1000 miles).

I have never owned a car which is so well built for cruising. You can roll along all day at 80 in comfort and utter silence (except for wind noise), enjoying the supportive seats with five million adjustments, the adaptive cruise control ensuring you barely have to do anything except steer, and the delightful sound system enveloping you in first-rate audio. My only complaint is the lack of an AUX IN jack, forcing me to use an FM transmitter for audio through iPod or my phone when I don't feel like dragging CD slimline cases full of discs with me.

I used to hate making the drives in my fiancee's Toyota Camry because its seats were hard as rocks and my lower back would be killing me after a couple of hours. Not so with my lovely, lovely Jag.

I can understand why Clarkson and co. at "Top Gear" would always say that when you're driving these that nothing else matters and no one can bother you because "I'm in a Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag."

When was the last time you took your big cat for a cruise?

Every year since 2010 we have holidayed in Germany using our XJ6 saloons that I owned up to January 2019 when I bought the XE. Each trip was lengthy, most times we went to the Rheintal, the beautiful area of the Rhine Gorge where the Lorelei Rock is located. I think that was about a 400 mile trip with a break on the ferry across the English Channel. However in 2017 we drove to Berlin, and in 2018 to Forchheim, a town in Bavaria north of Nuermberg. Now that was a long trip for us of over 600 miles. As always the cars behave impeccably and you arrive in good shape, not tired at all. In 2019, we didn't go abroad as my daughter was getting married and there was just too much going on, but next year, I think we will go back to the Rheintal as we love it so much.
The Berlin and Nurember trips saw the trip showing nearly 3000 miles driveway back to driveway.

 

Mine is fantastic.Love driving it. Like just looking ar it.
But some of the issues drive me nuts. Disintegrating bushings and boots, steering wheel shimmy on certain pavement, wheels that lose shape, no LSD even in XJR, even the stereo speakers fall apart.
Yours is low mileage, most likely garaged. Definitely helps.

 

I do rather fear the time when I get the dreaded "AIR SUSPENSION FAULT" or "VEHICLE TOO LOW" message. Seems that time is not yet, fortunately.

I work from home so it doesn't get used as a daily driver (I've put just over 4000 miles on it since buying it in April). It was indeed garage kept before me and I keep it in mine as well. Every little bit helps.
