You might try to post in the correct section for your model car for more responses.

Hi Dave,
I have moved your post from the forum for the X308 to the forum for the X350, which is the Jaguar factory project code for your 2004 XJ8. Here you will find knowledgeable owners of similar cars.
Your remote may need to be reprogrammed. The procedure is fairly simple:
1. Have all the remotes with you when you are ready to program them. I think the limit is four different remotes but may be wrong;
2. Open driver's door and sit in the driver's seat;
3. Hold the high beam selector arm/lever towards you;
4. While continuing to hold the arm toward you, insert the key in the ignition and turn the key to the first position (Accessory);
5. Release the high beam selector arm and then pull and release the arm 4 times. After the 4th time you should hear a chime;
6. Press any button (such as LOCK) on each remote once to program that remote in. You will hear a chime. Repeat for all the remotes and you are finished.
7. Turn the key to OFF and test each remote to confirm the programming was successful.
Cheers,
Don

Hi Dave
I'm going through exactly the same problem with my X350 at the minute and awaiting the arrival of a replacement Drivers Door Module which I believe is a common cause of the problem. Unfortunately new ones aren't available in the UK but used ones can be had for about £60 on ebay and have to be programmed in by someone with the necessary diagnostic kit. My local indie has quoted £30 for this.
If I were brave enough and had the time I would buy the kit and do it myself.
Good luck and please keep us informed of your progress.
Cheers
Pete
PS First thing to do is check if the remote is working. I have a tool for this but I have heard that a Locksmith who deals in car locks can sometimes do this
