Default Looking for a SuperV8 - Is this a special color?

I'm in the market for a 05-07 Super and i'd like something a little different in the color dept but probably will settle on Gray BUT this color looks like black cherry, was there such a thing?

Its beautiful! Is this an '07 ?

ok, through research, I answered my own question. The car pictured is a 2006 Super V8 Portfolio in black cherry. Wow, is that nice. So my narrowing is getting narrower.

The only problem with the portfolio is that it doesn't come with a wood/leather steering wheel. Can this be added?? Then this car would be purrrfect.

My first choice - 2006 Black Cherry Super V8 portfolio!

Was the Black Cherry available in just the Super V8?

YES , the cherry black was exclusive to the 06 potfolio super v8. In 2005 the super v8 came in 4 standard colors, ebony, radiance red, liquid silver and green.

I ordered the special option color Slate for my super v8 and an extra cost.

For myself the super v8 is the flagship of the Jaguar line. class, space and power.

very rare model also.

Good luck in your search.

I really like the slate color, thats my first choice but i have fallen smitten with the 2006 Portfolio, i just wish it had the wood wheel.

It seems 32k can get me one. We'll see where i end up.

That is a very good price and yes you can get a wooden wheel. Sometimes they are on ebay or can be ordered from a dealer.

Can you get a wooden wheel to match the unique wood of the portfolio?

No fraid not....

Listen I did a lot of research into the Super V8 Portfolio, there was one for sale "cheap" in Italy with very low miles, I was looking at it from an investment point of view.

265 Super V8 Portfolio's in 2006MY were produced in total

145 for the US
5 for Canada
10 for Switzerland
40 for Japan (in RHD)
6 for Australia (in RHD)
1 which is now in the JDHT collection (in RHD) which is also the very last XJ produced in Browns Lane.
"some" for the UK (in RHD)
The rest went to the Middle East and Continental Europe & Russia in LHD.

So you are looking at 1 of 150 cars that were delivered to North America, and 1 of 265 delivered worldwide.

The special options on the Portfolio, to distinguish it from the standard Super V8 are;

Black Cherry or Winter Gold paint
Conker coloured leather
Alcantara headlining
4-seater model with individually electrically adjustable rear seats
American Black Walnut Veneer in Satin finish
400W Alpine Stereo with Dolby Pro-Logic II sound processing & 15x speakers
Polished 20" Calisto Wheels
Big tailpipes
Polished chrome power vents on the front wings

You won't find a wooden wheel to match the American Black Walnut.
And the wheel in the Portfolio is not heated. One of the reasons why it only came in leather.

It's the background picture on my iPad, it's that beautiful. I've found 3 for sale but all 3 have multiple owners and that goes against my used car buying law

I'll find one, I'm in no hurry, but it has to be right. I regret not having the wood steering wheel though. But everything else makes up for it

Where are the three you found for sale? I'd like to see them. I don't mind multiple owners.

A couple weeks ago I saw one of these sitting around at my dealer. I think it was a recent trade in. Looked like an 06 from the trim. It was at Jaguar of Tampa.

I used Autotrader.com to find mine. You can do a very selective search.... just select '06 to '06 MY, search any distance, then add "Portfolio" as a keyword.

Doing this today finds 6.

1 in Winter Gold. (no thanks)
2 >$50k due to super low miles.
3 more in Mid 30's with reasonable miles.

They are very special and rare cars and I would not change my decision to buy one for anything.....

.......but for the more pragmatic among us, the "standard" Super V8 is an amazing car, will be ~ 5k cheaper, and has 5 seats !

I had a wooden wheel on my '00 XJR and I did like it, but the full leather on the Portfolio is nice also..... it feels kind of chunky and, dare I say it, sporty !!

Knowing what my next car will be, is 3/4 the battle. Finding the exact one is the challenge and i'm up to it. This is a great car at a fantastic deal, i can't wait to own one. Thank you Scott !

Does anybody know if you can just order the American Black Walnut Veneer in Satin finish to replace the normal wood interior?

@Muddybear

I asked the same question of a Jaguar dealer because my Portfolio has the factory sat radio in place of the ashtray. I don't need or use sat radio so I was looking in to taking the sat radio out and getting the ashtray back in, so I was looking for the ashtray cover only in satin black walnut. The dealer did seem to do some digging and he made a couple of phone calls but the conclusion was that the wood kit was "not available". Now, I DID NOT tell him I had a Portfolio, because I hadn't bought the car yet, so I don't know if that would make a difference or not ?

I know some other members were looking into the aluminium gear shifter surround that is unique to the Portfolio and it was ridiculously expensive ($700 I think) so I'm not sure if there is a conspiracy by Jaguar to keep Portfolios "exclusive and rare" and not let people copy them, or if the high prices and/or non-availability of Portfolio only parts is simply due to the supply and demand. (As mentioned before, there are only ~145 in the US)

I'll watch this thread though for others comments because I would like to swap out the sat radio for an ashtray

It used to be available as an option, see attached.

American Black Walnut parts are listed in the parts manual e.g.

C2C39856 - Facia Veneer kit (dash and glove box)
C2C35259 - Centre Console Veneer kit (includes ash tray cover)

There are a number of different part numbers for American Black Walnut though depending on model, year and country of origin so you would have to do more research.

If you ever find the right color ashtray, I would like to talk with you about purchasing your sat radio. I would swap you mine, but it isn't the correct wood.

@Dave

Unfortunately my Sat radio doesn't work. I tried many things over the course of a week with sirius but the radio is not getting a terrestrial signal (although it is getting a satellite signal) This prevented it from being activated.
