Default Loud 'squeak' from rear of car

(04 XJ) When accelerating out of fast turn, I've sometimes heard a loud "squeak" from the back of the car. If I drive nice and slow, it doesn't happen. But if I take a turn quickly and accelerate out of the turn, I'll hear that "ook" sound coming from what I think are the rear wheels. (And it's kind of loud, too.)

As my factory warranty is about to expire, this is one of the things on my list to have looked at, but was wondering if anyone has had this before?

Kind of obvious but check for loose parts in the spare tire compartment - tire, wrench, kid toys etc.

Do you hear the noise only when the car is shifting gears - could be transmission issue?

its actually coming from a clutch pack in the transmission.. not a big deal.. there is a bulletin on this.. there is a additive that needs to be put in your transmission. and the noise goes away.. its actually called a "squawk"

Keep in mind that this TSB (JTB00040 - 7/31/07) is only for a "squawk/chirp noise during transmission gear shifts". It does not apply to any squeaks that occur when the transmission is not shifting. It also is related to shifts between 3rd and 4th gear (or 5-3 or 6-3 downshifts) only. Because of this, I am suspicious that this is the condition that you're referring to. a 3-4 shift coming out of a turn would be a fairly high speed turn.

Thanks to all for such a helpful response.

Jag_genius and XJ856Sing: It would be a relief to find out that it was such an easy problem to fix. I'm hoping that's what it is because I don't want have complicated problems.

wdonovan: I get what you're saying (and that's what I'm fearful of). I'm going to be an optimist and hope Jag_genius and 56Sing are right.

It'll be some time beforeI take it in. I'll post what the dealer finds.

The E clutch is sticking due problemswith the friction modifiers in the fluid. It's too bad that theShell fluid that is so costly cannot make the tranny shift right!

For anyone who's been following this...I just took it in today to have this "squawk" looked at. I'll post the response from the dealer tech next week when they get back to me.

My car makes this squawk once in awhile. I've been thinking of taking it in and getting the fluid modified to stop it, but it worries me that if they can't get the fluid right to start with, can adding extra stuff to it get it right? How do we know they know what to do now when they didn't before? All the caveats in the TSB for this fix saying you can't ever add this stuff again and the warnings make me nervous. Frankly, in looking at the 6HP26 and the things it is doing tells me this tranny is not very well sorted out. I used to think ZF was a name to be trusted but after my current Mini CVT and this 6 speed, I'm notso sure of them. Theses two trannies have some advanced thinking in them, but neither one was tested adequately for my tastes.

Just started noticing this squawk in a down shift coming out of a turn on my 04 XJ8 with 26K on the odo. Guess I'll have to go see the dealer again. My car is out of warranty, but I do have the certified warranty. Am I covered for this TSB?

Jag_genius was right (again)!
Dealer's tech said the same thing. Additive was put in and now, no more "squawk".

I was worried at first what wdonovan said (which made a lot of sense to me, too), but I'm glad it was a common problem with a well known fix.
