Cool Melted XJR Fog Lamp...

Noticed a cracked foglamp lens a few months ago; ordered new complete lamp from Rimmer Bro's (in UK). '07 XJR.

New lamp wnet dark within a few days of installation. I took things apart again, and found the new fog lamp literally melted in half. Looked at the other lamp (original?; RHS; still working), and it is kinda' semi melted too

I'm guessing wrong bulb somehow in both new and old?? Did a forum search, and apparently this is not an unknown problem...

Before buying two more of these bloody things, is there something I'm missing?

(BTW, I'm a fan of Rimmer Bro's. Impressed with thier customer service)

Hi hisport,
One solution to the heat buildup could be fitting an LED bulb. There are some rubbish ones, but a good one might be ok. My car is an X358, so the fog lights are different. I got a couple of copy ones from AliExpress that have an angel-eye ring as well as the fog LED. I wired the angel-eye LEDs to the park bulb circuit. The LED fog lights work at least as well as the originals, maybe better. There may be something similar for the X350. I have kept my original fog lights in case I want to change back.

Thanks Pete - this seems a great idea.

I looked up bulbs; believe my '07 is supposed to have 55W H3 (incandescent) foglamp bulbs.

Looks like there are tons of H3 LED substitutes, ranging from about $5 to $120. In the ads (Amazon), some have a single pigtail, some two, some none. Some look huge; others "Canbus compatible", etc, etc. All look very Chinese. None are very highly rated, and looks like fitment problems are the main complaint

Any recommendations on an LED H3 bulb that will fit and work properly?
