Default MPG X358 2.7Tdvi Sovereign LWB

Had a good ole run today and watch the mpg climb on my way to Inverness ( albeit the average speed cameras helped somewhat )
Most of the motorway journey at 60mph with a little at 70mph and saw...48.2mpg

From a full tank of 85 litres, having covered 285.9 miles

Meant I had approx 409 left in the tank

giving a total of 694.9 miles range, not bad!

I have managed 716 miles from a tank before, which is just awesome, but god, soo soo boring, you'd just never drive like that in real everyday life.

So, it'll be back to around 500 - 500 miles from a tank again shortly, but it's nice to see what can be achieved

Thanks Magmedia - albeit she's a diesel but still, for such a big heavy LWB car it's pretty darn good, still has a nice turn of speed too as she's been remapped.
Ok, so it's not 4.2 Supercharged beast, but hey, you can't have it all

Yes but it's down the road with grace and pace in SUCH comfort!

Waiting the diesel in U.S...

Are there 'conversions' at play in those numbers? Ie are 'gallons' the same and 'miles'?

I was in a VW diesel last week that was clocking 52.7mpg but that, sir, was no XJ!

Thanks Jim.

A UK gallon is 4.54609 litres
A US gallon is 3.785 litres

As far as I know a mile is a mile

Jeremy Clarkson did a run in one from Basle to Blackpool I think it was and managed around 750 - 800 miles
They drained the tank afterwards and estimated with the fuel that was left, driven the same way that around 950 - 1000 miles was possible

Jim,

You're making me really jealous especially since diesel fuel is the same price as regular in my area. As for me, I've seen mpg as high as 34 mpg at a steady state of 60 mph.

Yep, Basel to Blackpool, and Clarkson's route (the longest) was 835 miles. I think he said the 'Range' went to zero about 20 miles before he got to Blackpool.

Default Conversion

Converted to US gallon spec, that is about 30.94 per US gallon.

Very impressive.

Thanks-

Yep, here's what I got out of the Supercharged XJR, in UK gallons...

In US mpg that's 30.5mpg. Very boring drive though, I got passed by everyone...

Thats very impressive Jim! Well done.

Cambo, when I collected my Super V8, I averaged 34 mpg and that included 'testing' the supercharger a few times!

These cars do give very good MPG, considering size/power. Unfortunatly my still is referred to as a gas guzzler.

Thanks Alec.
May be a "Gas guzzler" but what a machine!

Did you hear anything from the camera boys from the trip home Alec?
Hopefully not!

Actually very pleased with my MPG, uses the same amount of fuel day-to-day as the 3.0 with almost twice the power. Should expect diesel running costs when running on gas- not used this feature yet.

Nothing arrived in the post...
Hope the guys in the F-Type got away ok.

Nothing arrived by now, you're all A ok then Alec, breath a sigh of relief.

The F type should be ok, could only have been over the speed limit slightly and for a few seconds, on the wrong side of the road and also shielded by me and others........I'd be very surprised if he was tagged.

Yaawwwn, need to go to bed, longggg day

Fair old trip today. left around 4am from Glasgow, travelled down to Cavenham ( near Bury St Edmunds ) on business, then over to Norwich and back to Glasgow, around 11pm, some 820+ miles

Some good mpg today although sabotaged as usual with a little fun here n there, but saw 46.1mpg at one point and averaged around 40mpg for the trip

Night all

Default MPG X358 2.7Tdvi Sovereign LWB

Recent trip up the highway; from gas station on-so all highway.

Significant drop in mileage around town after that...
