Default Nav screen auto brightness not working

Normally with the headlamp set to auto, the nav screen would automatically adjust brightness. This function is no longer working, resulting in my nav screen stuck in dark 'night' mode all the time. I can, however, still go into sys settings to change to 'day' mode but it's a pain to have to do this every time. Any advice on a fix? Thanks!

Yes it could be the sensor on the windscreen behind the rear view mirror.

Do your lights work on auto because they use the same sensor?

Meirion,

Would that same sensor also control the auto wiper function?

Just checked up on the Elect Guide and I was wrong!

The Rain Sensing Sensor is on the windscreen and is connected to the FEM

but there is an Autolamp Sensor connected to the Inst.Pack (IP).

This is mounted on the "front of the fascia".

IIRC the "daylight" sensor is on the dash blister with the flashing red led for the alarm.

So, finally, can anyone please make it clear which sensor works for what function and where is that sensor? Because, in my jag the nav screen has become all-time-dark and the head lamps are always ON if I put the switch to AUTO.

If the switch is set to OFF, I get the message in the dashboard indicating Head light is OFF.... even in the day-time with bright sunshine.

Is this sensor in any way connected/routed to the sunroof function/cable. Because recently, I had the sunroof opened and fixed a few things, and since then the NAV screen is dark, Auto lamps do not work (they are ON all the time). Or can it be possible that the sensor stopped working suddenly. Is there any way to test it ? And how to fix it ?

Experts/ Engineers.... Please guide.

Thanks.

I cannot see a connection there .I have attached a copy of the X350 Electrical Guide so you can trace it out yourself.

OK

The light sensor is the smaller black blister located on the top of the dash and near the

windscreen (as piglet John has said some time ago).

To be clear this is the one that flashes when the car is locked.

If you replace it the chances are that it will be brittle due to it's location

also tie a piece of string to the wire first so the wire does not disappear down the hole!

Some time ago I tested mine when I thought it was failing by getting a small plastic

bottle top which would fit over it and covering it in black tape.

The nav screen should go to 'night' with the cap on and bright with the cap off during daylight.

Mine appeared to be working ok.

WRT Jagnew the chances are it's just your sensor which has failed.
OK

You can also try the built in diagnostic system. I have attached a procedure for you to read. The 2nd procedure deals with display issues.
