Default Need advice on purchasing a 2004 xjr

Ok been looking at jags for about 8 months on ebay and about to get serious. I original wanted a s type r but starting to like the xj since we sometime have 3 kids under 10 with us. For a one owner 2004 74k miles XJR. Going to ebay auction but the car is in my area. What should I look for on inspection?? what are typical problems for this year and model..
Thanx Guys

Check the threads on here, volumes have been written on this very topic. The first thing is service records. If the car has been serviced propertly it will prove to be a very reliable car. Its biggest weak spot is the air ride suspension, replacing the compressor at times is a service item like brakes and tires. The air shocks can go bad and be very exspensive to replace. Being as high tech as it is, electrical gremelins can be a problem but no worse then MB or BMW, just nature of the beast. I love the ride the feel.

Good luck with your search

Here is my penny worth, over the last 3 months I looked for an STR or XJR, looked at 10 different cars so I have experience the only piece of advice I can give is get a jaguar inspection from a jag dealer I would not buy one of these cars with out one period. Reason I drove cars I thought drove great and my Brother in law how is an auto engineer that has rebuilt an E Type thought was fine was found to be a car that needed more repairs than what was worth. My car incidentally I did not even see but had a jag inspection and has turned out to be great. If I had no inspection done on some of the cars I looked at I could be $5-$10k in the hole on repairs. These cars when looked after are reliable but you must get one that has been, the only way is the inspection then you don't have to worry about what to look for let the pro's do it, it will be the best $180- $210 you spend. Contact George Androulakis on this forum he will see you right and find you a good one. If you do buy one they are absolutely great cars do not be out off what ever is wrong car be fixed just not as easy as other cars out there.
