Default Need some help with my fob

Hi everyone!

I am brand new to Jaguar ownership, always wanted one and recently got the chance to purchase a 2004 Jaguar XJR in Radiance Red with 102,000 miles on it. Seems like it has been taken care of pretty well, but it has only had about 3,000 miles added to it in nearly 12 years of the previous owners time with it. Because of that, there are some gremlins, and I'm hoping to leverage you more knowledgable folks for some help.

I looked around on the forum and saw other threads about the key fob, and I have used those to get to where I am. When I picked the car up the key fob didn't do anything. The car locks and unlocks with the key being inserted into the keyhole on the door, so the central locking works. I reprogrammed the key fobs today using the guide I got from here (listed below). I also took the fob apart and cleaned all the terminals. All of the buttons click in a very satisfying manner now that was not previously present.

All buttons on the fob work now, the trunk button opens the trunk, the lights/panic button does its dance, the unlock button unlocks the doors, and the lock button folds the mirrors in and makes the horn chirp, but it does not lock the doors. I'm a little stumped and I am wondering of you all can help a new Jag owner out.

Thanks in advance!

Just wanted to come back on this and say that I followed the guide found on (https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...now-faq-87749/) to reprogram the fobs after getting new batteries in them. The car sat for a while, and I'm willing to bet just about everything went dead.

It still wasn't working, but I also had the warning light on for my hood being open. After fiddling with that, and finding a couple of other guides on here, I found the sensor which looks to have fallen off the hood locking bracket located under the vanity shroud. I clicked it back on there, the "hood open" warning light went away, and now my fob works as intended.

Though I didn't get any direct responses here - thanks for the help!

That's a strange fault!

I assume that you reprogramed the fob using the headlamp flashing method

If so you could try doing it again.

If you hit the lock button and then open eg the driver's door you should get 3 secs of chiming and then the alarm goes off

because it thinks the doors are locked but has detected that a door is open.

If this does not happen then it has not got the message to lock the doors.

There has been a fault in the past where there was a bad connection on the Driver's Door Module

which receives the fob messages hence you could try cleaning the connections

but that means removing the driver's door 'card' to access the DDM.

Thanks for the help! Definitely had me stumped. It was actually the "hood open" warning that was giving me the trouble with the locking function. I had read on another thread that if it thinks any of the doors are open it will only let you lock the doors with the key being inserted into the key hole on the driver's door and turned to lock. I got the hood latch sensor reconnected and that solved it straight away.

on my 2005 model the 'lock' button pressed once locks all doors, while a second press of the 'lock' button moves the side mirrors inward. I don't hear a horn sound, but i believe 1 of the 2 horns is broken.

When you press the lock button twice you double lock the doors

ie the doors are locked from the inside and the outside.

If a lock fails in that position it is a very problematic repair.

I suggest that you do not use it even though it's fun to play with.

I followed your link and it seems USA doesn't have the double locking feature. I just proved it yesterday since my battery died and the key fob lock was pressed twice (mirrors folded). I was able to use my key in the main door to reach around to unlock all other doors manually. Also, the key worked to open the trunk so all is well. I like the folding mirrors option for parking in tight areas.

The US does not have 'dead-locking' as an option.

Not to hijack....but, I just got my 2015 XFR-S fixed so the doors lock (It was a bad KVM) and my mirrors don't fold. I couldn't find any option in the settings of the car for this either. I assumed that I had non-folding mirrors. Do these cars have mirrors that are supposed to fold when the car is locked?

They should definitely fold upon either a second press (within 3 seconds of the first) of the lock button on the fob, or on a likewise second push of the locking button on any door.
