The transponder chip that you buy is not programmable. It is made with a random code that is hard wired to it. What you do when you pair the keys with the car is to put the car into a state where it recognizes the code in the transponder and stores it in the car anti-theft memory. Just buy a couple of keys from Ebay, AliExpress, Temu, whatever. Make sure they are the right fob frequency (433MHz or 315MHz) for your region or the market the car was sold in. Get the physical part cut, they are known as Tibbe keys. Ford had them for decades. There is a 5 digit code, but just get a working one copied. You already have two working keys, just use the routine in the car to program the two new ones as well.

All this is in the document that was referenced in about the second post on this thread.

Pete, the chips I ordered are not programed. I have two working keys to use to program the new chip which i will put into the key fob I already bought through eBay. I tried the procedure of two keys and then the new key with the eBay fobs when I first got them and that didn't work. The PATS light just kept blinking. So I'll find out in a few days if this will work. I had three bare keys (w/chip) when I bought the car and cannibalized one of the keys to get the chip out but must have damaged it as the car no longer recognizes it. I went down a rabbit hole and found angry weasel.

I just received 2 from Amazon that I bought from different sellers. I took them apart and see what you said about most of the tube being black, mine are the same, just the tip at the end with the coil is clear. I'll let you know how mine go too.

Pete, excuse my thick headedness. Working on my problem I reread your post and finally understood how programming new keys works. I'm beginning to think now that the car has had the maximum amount keys programmed to it. Can a Jag repair shop "reset" the car to accept new key codes again? I don't have SDD...........Jack.

Fred, I think my problem with the key programming is that the car has already had the maximum number of keys programmed to it. Not sure if I want to pursue it any further. If an independent shop can erase the already accepted codes from the car at a reasonable cost I might do it. It's been a little over a week since I JB welded the glove box door and it is holding. It doesn't sit flush with the dash but definitely better than before. I used JB Plastic weld.

Ohhhhh, good catch! It's always amazing how the most obvious things get completely missed until you step back for a bit, it never even occurred to me. That makes perfect sense as you have 3 keys without fobs, so it would stand to reason that the fobs it used to have are still in the computer. Well if we have an opportunity to meet up at some point, there must be a way for us to fix that with my SDD setup. I'll look through it for that option the next chance I get. Off to KY for vacation on Monday then PA for work, but maybe we can sort it after I get back.

Good to hear that it's holding, thanks for the updat. Hmm, I'll take a close look at how to best approach it then, definitely wanna get it flush. I bet ours are the same now, mine just juts out a little bit.

Fred, I checked with a local independent shop this morning. $6-800 dollars to program the keys so I politely declined. Nice shop though. I'll check at the next local Jag club meeting with some of the wizards that are members. Again, thank you for your offer.

When I had to get my local independent to program a new one because I only had one key, I understood that the SDD process erases all the existing keys, and then each key to be used, is programmed in. This would get around the problem of too many keys. For me this was just charged at a half hour's labor, which was less than $200. I don't think the one that wanted $800 to program keys would be a company that you should entrust with your car.
