Default New subs in my XJR!!

I replaced the stock subs in my xjr. I ended up paying a local stereo shop to swap them. They said it was very difficult to swap them on the jag. A typical car they said would be $65, they charged me $75, but said any other jags come in for similar service, and it'll be $150
If anyone is interested in my stock subs, let me know.

For sure! not as good as a sub in a box with amp would be, but they sound ALOT better than stock, and I maintained my entire trunk. I could hardly hear the stock subs at all

Mine is going in next Wed to get my subs checked under warranty as I cant hear any difference when the subs are turned up.Had the service guy sit in the car and he couldnt either.Yesterday there was a bassy? song on the radio so turned the sub up and it was only a dull thud.
If my subs arent replaced at the dealer I mightl go to the audio shop where they added a Jag amp, wiring I had made up and 9 Focal speakers to my non premium sound X Type to upgrade it which transformed the sound completely.
Focal speakers sound awesome and volume could be maxxed with no distortion as long as you wore earprotectors for safety!

I wonder if a little external mono amp would also make the bass a little louder and cleaner than the factory amp; tuck it away in the corner of the trunk, tie into the existing speaker levels, and back out. Thats the first OEM replacement that I have seen on that car, thanks for posting up the info.

How good are the new ones?
My stock ones are p!ss poor (just occasionally a dull thud otherwise nothing else) which is why they are getting checked before the warranty runs out

yeah, mine were just a dull thud, these are 100x better, but still sound like they could benefit from a better amp than the stocker

Here is some thought. The new subs are 4 ohm dual voice coils. This means you are running them at 2 ohm or 8 ohm (unless the amp has 4 channel). If they are at 2 ohm, that would be more stress on a factory amp that probably isn't designed to run at that low of resistance. This in theory increases the output of an amp, but at what cost? You could ruin it over time, I don't know what the stats are for the amps. At 8 ohms, you would have less power than the factory subs. I'm guessing since they sound louder, they are wired for 2 ohms. Let us know how the amp performs. I'm wondering if it has a thermal cutout when it gets hot.

So the factory amp is only one channel?

You should like them, they blew my alpines out of the water, to get the most out of them I think you need to wire up an amp, but they sound nice without one as well
