Default New wheels on my SV8, pics

So I conceded defeat to the horrendous roads here in coastal new england and backed my wheels down to 18's from the stock 19s on my 2005 SV8. After lots of obessional research I picked Enkei Ammodo's which, after lots of back and forth with the manufacturer and Tirerack, appeared clear the big wide brake calipers. They also were the lightest 18s which didn't look like they were designed by 12 year-olds. I am pleased with the much improved impact harshness and and don't really see a downside to the change, other than moving away from a classic Jag design (the change from scalloped summer perfomance tires probably didn't hurt). I do think they look good, and will be better once I put green growler decals on the caps (on order from Acromann). Anyway, I've posted photos so you can see what you think.

Also, now I have the 5 original "custom" wheels and would like to get rid of them. Anyone have recommendations of the least time consuming way to sell these? The spare is in great shape, the other four look like they have 6 years of use with kerbing, etc though they clean up fine. I've attached a not great pic of a couple of these as well.

Very interested to get more detail on how much the ride has changed, from handling to how it deals with rough roads, bumps etc.

Love to see more pics of your car with the new wheels.

Ebay is your best bet to sell them.

DR,

I'm not usually a fan of aftermkt. wheels but you have done quite well. IMHO

The OEM "custom" wheel was not Jags finest moment anyway. I sold 1 perfect "custom" wheel here on the forum awhile back but it took 6 months so I would go with Ebay

Default changes in ride

I don't have too many miles on the wheels yet but my overall sense is of significantly reduced jarring on the larger cracks and potholes. Also, not sure if this makes sense, but I used to experience what I would describe as "hop" over large uneven cracks, basically the sensation that I briefly lost traction. This too feels diminished. I can more easily break the rears free and chirp them off the line, not sure if this has more to do with the grand touring tires I switched to from the summers it was on as well as the narrower contact patch. The car is far more quiet but my old tires were scalloped so not a fair comparison. Perhaps the overall comment would be to say the car feels a little "lighter on its feet", more tossable, more secure on rough roads but less planted on smooth roods, and with less feel of exactly what the tires are doing. Overall what I was looking for, but I understand why folks like the feel of the low profiles.

I'd love to sell on ebay, should I sell them separately or as a group? Or sell the spare alone which is in great shape and the four more used ones as a group? How do I ship em? Thanks for any comments.

I can't get these photos to post, I guess I need to take new ones. Weird...

BTW, Tarheal, what did you sell the wheel for? What do you think is a fair price range for one clean Custom wheel and 4 with significant kerbing?

I would sell as a set only. A set is worth more than the sum of the 4 wheels individually. A large part of your mkt. will be guys who want an extra set of wheels for their snow tires.

I'm not real current with used wheel prices but I would not go lower than $250 per wheel. Buyer pays shipping. Wheel condition is very important. A badly chewed up rim will cost $150 plus to fix.Guys hate curb rash. Check out the prices at Welsh www.welshent.net.

You'll be much happier with the ride from now on; a wise decision ! Why are these rubber-band tyres so popular ?

Default Weights of 19" "Custom" and 18" replacement

Well, I have taken more photos of my car with 18" Enkei Ammodos but nothing will upload properly. Anyone interested in how these wheels look contact me and I will email you the pics. I am very pleased with them.

Also thought I'd report the weight of the 19" Custom wheel with it's original tire - 59lbs. The 18" Ammodos + tire weighs about 55.5. I thought the difference would have been more significant, but it may be the original wheels are fairly lightweight or that the Enkei, which was basically the lightest wheel I could find at Tirerack, isn't all that light.

Also, some of you have asked about purchasing the 5 Customs. I am interested in selling them. I will post info in the classifieds. Thanks

I think new 18s are 235/55, original 19's are 255/40. I could have gone w 245/45 but the tire diameter is slightly smaller than those above.

Now for a little picture help:

When you attach a picture as you did, you can click "preview post", you will see what is about to be posted, click your attached photo, it will open in a new window, right click the enlarged picture and "copy", go back to "preview post" page, right click "paste" and then click "post reply". POOF your thread now has an enlarged picture!

You can also go the photobucket way (for free) and make your picture threads look more "professional".
