No sound from Speakers/ No Phone Fitted
So first, I am new, forgive me if I am not doing this right... I have owned many Jaguars and have experienced this with all, with the exception of my 89 XJS. I see from the many posts its quite common but baffling each time and no definative answer ever supplied that I have been able to find. My current 2006 XJ Super V8 suddenly has no sound from the speakers, radio shows stations and displays a station change CD Player as well as CD Changer display (example) Track 1 Playing but NO SOUND from speakers. Also a new wrinkle, also say's "No Phone Fitted" I have been using my phone for a year prior to this recent development. ???? Any Thoughts HELP
Sounds like a bad amplifier. Had a similar thing happen to me a while back. But, there is one thing, if something is not working on the D2B network (which the nav, cd changer, phone, voice, and amp are on) none of these things should work, and you say the CD changer is still working. That being said, still seems like something is not quite right on the D2B network.
Thanks WinterJag ! No... well yes, the CD Changer works as does Nav, Radio, CD in Head Unit, all act as if they are working CD's change discs, tracks play, radio stations change. JUST NO SOUND from speakers ? What would a bad amplifier have to do with her saying "no phone fitted" when I do have integrated phone ? I had this exact problem with my 05 XJ8L the dealer told me I had a bad "head unit" $1900 was the quote for a new one. My Independent Jag Mechanic disconnected the battery, put it back and all work as it should, problem solved for ZERO $... had I listened to the dealer I would have been $1900 lighter in the wallet ! I had this same problem intermittently with my 96 XJ12, but both the 96 and 05 came back. The 06 Super V8 has not ???
What WinterJag said.
I assume you have disconnected the battery and still have the same issue.
If the D2B is bad, you would not see the CD changer at all - pressing the button would do nothing.
If you have SV8, there should be a read console which can also control the audio, check that you can control the radio and single CD from it and your radio is not accidentally muted from the rear console. If that all works likely your D2B bus is working fine and the reason for the lack of sound is the AMP acting out.
Now on the question "where did the phone module go" - not sure. It is also part of the D2B bus, but the thing with the D2B is that it either all works or none of it works. And if you see CD changes and you are able to control things from the rear console it would stand to reason that the D2B bus work fine.
When one module fails on the bus it tries to switch in "bypass" mode so the rest of the buss would continue to work. Two things failing at the same time (AMP and Phone) is rather odd, not impossible, but odd. You don't have any water coming in the trunk do you?

veffremov did a better job explaining the details that I did about the d2b network. Like him, the confusing part is the CD changer working but the phone not as both modules are on the same network. The first thing I did when I had the amp issue was loop* out the amp (I happened to have a spare loop or two so it was easy for me) and see what happens. In my case once I looped it out, therefore removing it from the d2b network, everything started working again, just without sound obviously as the amp was gone! I would try that out if you can and see if the phone comes back. Like veffremov said, it's odd that two things would fail at the same time and check the easy thing first, is it muted from the rear controls?
I had not thought to try the rear console, rarely used. I'll check. No I haven't tried a second time disconnecting battery as yet, I will do that as well. I say second because shortly before this occurred, A week or more. I had disconnected the battery to clear an engine light caused by a faulty gas cap. Cleared that and all was well for as I said "more than a week. Its just odd that everything "appears to be working. Nav shows up and travels as I do, just no sound from speakers. Radio changes channels, Volume goes up and down on screen, but no sound from speakers the single in dash CD player changes tracks, but no sound from speakers. CD Changer in the boot, changes discs and tracks, just no sound from the speakers ! The only thing that doesn't appear is Phone, attempting to access phone prompts "no phone fitted" I was using my phone up until the day this appeared. ??? I carry two cell phones, personal and corporate, could it be it tried to connect to both via BT and just went stupid ? Can you access multiple phones ?

Hmm. Well first try the battery disconnect, see if that helps. Others may have to chime in on this idea but, is it possible that there is a problem with the PSE module that is only affecting the amp? What I mean is the amp is the last thing before the head unit, with the rest of the modules before it (can't remember the exact order at the moment). Could it be that the PSE is just kinda messed up, but not totally and therefore letting the d2b still function, but not completely?
If a battery discon doesn't work, I would try looping out the phone next, like I suggested for the amp, to see if it is the cause.

Appears to be working is deceiving.
The radio and CD player are all one unit - these would work no matter what. The NAV is on separate network - SCP - and that would work also - you won't be able to hear it talk, but that is the only piece that needs the D2B network.
The CDC is one clue - that module is entirely on the D2B network, the phone, the AMP, the Voice Command and the Rear Console are on the D2B as well.
But I have seen it in the condition you describe and battery reset just magically works and everything goes back to normal. There is a chance that the PSE and/or AMP is broken as well - as WinterJag suggest, but let's cross that bridge when we have to.

Well now a new wrinkle, and possibly the root cause. I went out to disconnect battery and found it DEAD, its been a couple of weeks since driven, but I have gone longer than that without a start. So maybe it was a weak battery all along OR whatever is effecting these components also took the battery down. ? This is an 06 with only 38000 on her, I purchased her in 08 with 26000 so entirely possible this is the "original" 11 year old battery. I know I've never replaced it and doubtful a 26000 mile two year old would have ever needed as well. That's where I will start New Battery ! I'll post result... Thanks so much Gentlemen
Well, a dead battery can do crazy things to these cars! Take care of that first.
As to the two phone question, as far as I know, pre-08 (the facelift year) with the separate phone and bluetooth modules can only pair one phone at a time. The updated modules (phone and bluetooth in one) can pair up to 5 phones. At least, this is my understanding.
