Which oil (synth/semisynth) for XJR-X350?

Which oil (synth/semisynth) for XJR-X350?

Hi,

what kinda of oildo you use? I know that Jaguar uses Texaco Havoline Energy 5W-30, which is semisynthetic (see producer's specification and picture below). Can I use for example Mobil1 ESP Formula 5W-30 which is synthetic - can this damage the engine?

That's news to me! Both of my Jaguars indicate a recommendation of Castrol 5W-30. I use 5W-30 Castrol Syntec, full synthetic. Synthetic oil will only be better for your car and not harm it in any way. You can actually go more miles between oil changes with full synthetic. It does not break down as fast as full petroleum based oil.

There are rumors, that Jaguar uses semisynth as first factory fill (and the rumors seem to be truth - see picture above). Here in Czech the Jag dealer uses semisynth as well. Just wonder why there is recommended to use fully synth in US. According to car's manual there is recommended to use ACEA A1/B1 and ILSAC-GF3 grade. However on the oil cap there is written "Jaguar recommends Castrol" :-) Just wanted to know your opinions... The Texaco has very good reputation here in Europe.

I believe you misunderstood what I said. I personally use full synthetic Castrol oil, but in the US, Jaguar recommends regular Castrol 5W-30 oil. Of course the weight of the oil depends on the climate the car is used in and is noted in the owners book.
