Talking Is the OLDS Intrigue an XJ8 copycat?

My parents have a '98 Intrigue in "British Racing Green". The body looks a bit Jaguar-esque, the trunk has the articulated hinges and drip strip, the dash looks like the XJ's. the tail-lights look jag, it has controls on the wheel, the rear seats fold forward, and on and on. Has anyone else noticed this?

No not at all. What an insult to a Jaguar.

I too have noticed the similarities between certain GM designs and Jag. Take a look at the entire Park Avenue line starting in the late 1980s thru the 2005s.

Well it does have 5 Lug Nuts per wheel, but I think that is where it ends.

Hey it even has the little side window defroster vent at the end of the dash!

Seriously though, there are only so many ways you can put 4 doors on 4 wheels, yada-yada. Some designers may be "influenced" more by a specific design than another.

It all depends on how much you squint.

For another similarity, try the XK convertible models and the Chrysler Sebring convertible as viewed from a rear 3/4 view.

The Buicks you (Tar Heel) mention do resemble the cat even more than the Intrigue. The eliptical grille and body contour are remeniscent of the XJ series, which makes the vehicle sort of an "XJ starter kit" I suppose, and means that the Jaguar is worthy of being copied. Not everyone can see the similarity.

How funny! When I was proudly showing off my beautiful radiance VDP, my father-in-law said "what is that? Is that a Buick?" I've had GM cars. Now may be different, but throughout the 90's and 2000's, they couldn't compete. And don't get me started on the fat, bloated UAW who ultimately helped to drive the big general into a taxpayer-funded bailout.
Anyway, I think my father-in-law just tries to get under my skin ever since I married his daughter. Lol!

My father-in-law feels that his sole purpose for being on earth is to torture and torment his three sons-in-law. All in good fun....most of the time :-)

Cheers

That is because there is no similarity.

When I had a Rover 75 in the UK, people used to say what a nice Jaguar it was !

Actually, it looked like a very small Bentley.

My gut is hurting from laughing so hard at this thread! In fact, I saw something this weekend that was trying real hard to look like an XK. It may have been a new mustang or somesuch.

lol, yeah I have worked on a few Intrigues and Jaguar has never came to mind in the looks. XK and sebring though do look a little similar from the rear, from very far away, lol.

Whew! It isn't just me. I was embarrassed the day I sped up to see the XK in the distance only to discover it was said Sebring 'vert. And it's happened more than once. I felt like such a maroon.

Notice how everyone who has even entertained the ridiculous idea that an XJ looks like that thing: they are all X350 owners...

Obviously the interpretation of Jaguar-ness is very different then, seeing as how the X350 lost so much of it.

Then again, I am the one who pointed out the similarities (style wise) between the X351 and Citroen C6. So they all think I have no sense of anything.

Also, the taillights on the S-Type were similar to those of the Kia Sepia.
