Default Operator error

I was in reverse and shifted in to drive. I think I must have stepped on the gas, when I did that (not sure what I did exactly) and the shifting gear stuck into reverse. It did not stop exactly in reverse, jut a little bit before it. Now the car will only go in reverse. I had to back into a space at the mall and leave it there . :>(

Many people here have kindly posted information, thinking it was a bolt that fell out. That may be the case. If that is not the case, and it was due to operator error, is it possible to remedy this problem? I have an xJ8 2004.

Well, did the bolts fall out of the shift linkage bracket? That's the first thing to check.
