Default optical cable broken?

I have been trying to fix the phone module by replacing it because i got the error: not connected
after replacement still nothing.

however, i never used the cd changer so i figured to see if that also doesnt work.
put in some cd's and when pressing the cdc button nothing happens.

sooooooo.... i think i now know why the phone module doesnt work, must be an optical problem.

The cdc changer is powered since it ejects the cassette.
if it is an optical problem, should the cdc button still work but just not give any sound or is the whole device not detected?

now, how do i figure out if it really is the optical cable? is there a way to check if there is any communication going on? some sort of diagnostic procedure?

also read somewhere that sometimes the optical connector gets loose somewhere underneath the glovebox.
I checked but i dont see it, should it be there or is that only for other models?

thank you!

All the controls are through the optical, not just audio. Pretty sure something isn't connected. The only copper wire to the changer is for power and ground.

If you have the system with no dash speakers, no rear subs, and no amp, then the optical simply connects the head unit to the changer. Everything else still works.

If you have the system that does have the subwoofers, dash speakers, and amp, then the changer site on the optical between the the head unit and the amp. If there's no optical then there's no sound, even. however, someone may have removed the changer's connection for some reason and connected the head unit directly to the amp, in which case you'd have sound OK but no changer.

The full optical chain is: head unit -> change -> phone module -> voice activation module -> multimedia control panel -> navigation control module -> audio amplifier -> back to head unit. Any modules not present simply have their connector "jumpered" with a loop plug to keep the optical path intact:

My wiring diagram actually says that the car will come with a unique fiber-optic network depending on the modules it's equipped with, so that last sentence might have been a lie, I'm not sure. I haven't actually examined my system that closely. I know I don't have the navigation or multimedia modules.

The optical plugs are under the trunk trim, and clearly labeled if I remember well. Remove that left side trunk trim and you should find everything underneath. There's a plastic retainer button under the parcel shelf that needs to be pried out, and the fastener at the rear of the trunk. Reinstalling the trim is mostly a matter getting the top under the weatherstrip, then lining up the holes and replacing the fasteners.

yes, i found those but, i read somewhere the start of the cable is somewhere pluged in under the glovebox next to the fusebox at the passenger side, so i want to check if that plug perhaps came loose.
cant find it though...

There would be no reason to plug the optical cable into the fuse box. The fuse box is for electrons, not photons. As for a fuse for the changer, it has power since you can load it.

There is an optical connector on the back of the head unit in the dashboard. All of the other connectors are under the trunk, unless you have rear entertainment, and that control panel, at the rear of the center console, has a connector.

yes i undestand, the connector for the optics is next to the fusebox i read somewhere, but not sure which model jaguer that goes for.

i mean the cable that leads to the trunk starts there.
its plugged in somehwere in the front of the car and then leads to the back if you know what i mean.

It starts behind the head unit. There's nothing else at the front of the car for it to go into. Except for the rear entertainment control panel on cars so equipped, which is at the back of the center console, all modules on the fiber network are at the left side of the trunk: The changer, the cellular module, the voice activation module, and the navigation control module.

Hello guys,

I dismantle one of those at a junkyard a few years ago because I wanted to convert my non navigation system to a navigation system. So I removed all the optical wires and connectors. They were located at the trunk, left/diver side covered with the side panel.

I also found a few optical connectors under the center console, specifically next to the shifter and there was a phone module as well. The car was a XJ8 VDP 2005.

But I haven't seen any optical wires around the fuses box.
