Default CD Changer

Hi,
I am relatively new to the X-Type forum and realise that this subject may have already been covered. I have just fitted a cd changer to my 2004 estate and as far as I can see have connected it correctly, the fibre optic cable and the power cable. I cannot see any other cables or sockets. However, the changer does not work! Does the ECU need to be programmed to recognise the changer? If so, how is this done? Any help would be appreciated.
Regards

Do you have any other items using the fibre optic network. If not I think you will need a visit to the dealer or someone with the correct equipment to get it up and running.

If you do have other stuff using the network it has to be connected in a specific order.

This is how the various items should be connected in the fibre optic circuit.

cabin/CDC/phone/voice/navigation/amplifier/cabin.

Its the correct order I think.

Yes, you must have the head unit programmed to recognize the new cd unit; your dealer can do this. Having installed 3 of the cd changers in X Types I can tell you with certainty that this is the final step.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies and advice, my local garage is having a look on Monday which hopefully will avoid a long, and no doubt costly, trip to the nearest dealership her in SW France.
I will keep you posted.

Hi

Can you provide more details as to what head unit you have, what other items are in the fibre optic network and how have you cabled the cd changer to the head unit? Have you fitted a jaguar D2B cd player and does the cd player eject its CD cartridge when the eject button is pressed?

If you have the factory-fitted radio unit, then adding the cd changer in the boot requires only the proper fibre optic connector AND having the dealer or other agency with the right equipment access the car's computer to have it now recognize the cd changer. Nothing more is necessary; you do not need to change the head unit in the dash.
I have added the cd changer to 3 Xtypes, installed them myself and had my dealer reconfigure as described above.

Has the in current dash got a CDC button? if it has then you shouldn't need to change it. If you have a touchscreen then you can enable it yourself. If not a dealer with the correct jaguar software can enable it.
Also, is the changer powering up? Can you see a light on the magazine eject button?

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the responses. In order, hopefully! It is a Jaguar unit the same as is fitted to my XK8. The cartridge ejects. I have no touch screen, so, as far as I know there is nothing else in the loop.
There is a CDC button beneath the in dash player. I can't see agreen light on the eject button.
Hope this helps.
Thanks again.
Regards

If the cart ejects then there must be power to the unit, I think you need to take the car to a jag dealer or someone who has mongoose software to enable the changer.

I replaced my CD changer with a ACM. My local Jag guy, All Jaguar in Longood FL, hooked it up to his laptop. Did some stuff and the CDC button turned on the ACM. I have a Sirius radio fed through the RCA jacks on the ACM and it has worked flawlessly for two years now. I don't even bother playing music from my iPhone any more.
Note.. the ACM wont charge my iPhone 6 when I use an adaptor to use the small apple plug.

Hi,
Thanks for the responses. I agree that there is power to the changer but there are few Jaguar dealers in this part of SW France. The ACM route is very expensive, if a unit can be found.

Hi,
After much deliberation, I cannot get anyone locally to match the changer to the car and it is a two hour drive to the nearest Jaguar dealer. I would like to keep the car as original as possible so reluctantly I have decided to fit an aftermarket head unit. I need to know what else to buy so that I can maintain full functionality of the controls. I have emailed a company called Nexxia but so far they have not responded. Is it an easy job to do? I don't want to cause any damage!! I would appreciate any advice please.
Regards

I just pulled all of my stock equipment out, installed an aftermarket dounble din touch screen, and bypassed the fiber optics. Still have all of the alpine speakers/subs operating correctly. I lost the stock amp, but I will be installing an aftermarket soon. It is very easy to bypass all of that. I made a wiring harness that plugs in to the stock harness in the trunk (boot) that was previously plugged in to the amp. TE Connectivity 174935-1 is the female adapter you need along with the correct pins to fit in it. Then you just wire up the wire from the aftermarket stereo (after running it from the dash to the trunk) then plug it in. Seems like a lot of work, but it really isn't. Easy solution to the fiber optic trouble. A lot of people will tell you that you can't do it without rewiring all of your doors, but that isn't true at all. I didn't remove a single door panel in the process.
