Outside Trim Molding on 2005 XJ8L
I've run through the files looking for an answer, but will post and see if there may be a usable answer with-in.
The molding trim around the doors/windows is aluminum and over the years (2005 to present) they have lost their luster and now look like trim coated in a milky substance.
Nothing I can find will correct this, short of removing the molding and buffing it back to a 'as new luster'. Jaguar used aluminum to cut cost and did away with the chrome metal, but that move has sure ruined the appearance of these beautiful cars.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Mine were poor when I bought the car. I ended up getting a good set from a scrap yard and putting them on.
The clips that hold them on are single use only, they break on removing, so it is $50 for a new set of clips.
I have the old trims here (2004 XJR), but have never tried any more techniques to get them to shine. Anything I tried while they were still on the car was not a success.
Good luck.

A number of people on this forum have successfully refurbished these items.

I thought mine was plastic. I was wrong. They are aluminum with some type of clear coat on them.

Fraser Mitchell confirmed this as well. I had to remove the clear coat, then polish. Stripper didn't work so I used a vibrating sander. The trailing piece in my hyperlink took me about 1 hour to strip the coat off. I haven't added a clear coat as there are varying opinions about their adhesion to anodized aluminum, and I agree, hence the hazing. I'll admit, I'm lazy and don't want the added challenge of clear coating.
The clips will break but what breaks is the piece connecting the top to the bottom in the middle (pin that passes through the hole in the body). Automotive tape or silicone will suffice and you can re-use. Cost to me as I had aluminum polish and sandpaper = $0.00. Getting that new look back, priceless. Alternatively, I suspect you can have them dipped (chromed) for about the cost of scrapyard versions.
XJ8JR, I would love to see some close ups of that vinyl wrap for grins.
