Default P1647 fault

I changed the o2 sensor before the catalytic converter on the passenger side. Reset the code, removed power to the battery for 30 minutes, and after starting the engine light was gone. Drove 3 miles parked, and no light. After starting the second time the engine light came back on and has not went away. I've only driven 80 maybe in hopes that the light would go off. Any ideas?

Apparently not fixed. As the manuals say it's a 2-trip code.

Hopefully your location (wherever it is) means you changed the right one and hopefully you used the correct kind.

If so, check wiring etc.

Are you sure you changed the correct sensor? There are 4 in total, 2 before and 2 after the cat on each bank, That code relates to the Left hand bank, as you sit in the car, front sensor on the manifold side of the cat. Also as yours is an 05, its right on the change, the sensor part numbers changed between 05 the and 06 update, probably wouldn't make a difference but you never know.

What does it mean by two trip code?

I thought that I read upstream bank 2 was on the passenger side before the cat. So it's actually on the drivers side?

Ok I live in the U.S. So that makes my bank 2 on the passenger side or the drivers side?

I have the same P1647 code, and researching the topic. From what I've read this is Bank 2 which aligns with the even number cylinders of the V8 engine. Those cylinders are on the Driver side.
I have a thread in this forum trying to verify if I'm correct too.

I just reviewed a X350 Jag manual, for 2005 4.2L with VIN Range of G00442->G45703, and it states the P1647 as: "Left-hand ECM HO2S
control malfunction". I made a copy of the diagram with title and location of the sensors. I'm going to try and attach it.

To Clarify, no matter what country you are in, Sitting IN the car facing forward, Bank 1 is on your left, Bank 2 is on the right.

My Bad, see how easy it is to get it wrong?, LOL

Yes, so to really clarify, Sitting IN the car, Bank 1 is on RIGHT, Bank 2 is on LEFT.
