Default Parts ### mess

Hi,

I'm trying to make sense what rads cooling fan can be used on my 2004 XJR?
Dealer said:
The current part number C2P16825 has changed up four times since it's initial incarnation of XR852101.
and then he told me that # Fits...
XF Range from R30685 - R47153
XK Range from B27987 - B32752
XJ Range from H25148
my VIN is G10578

Somebody told me that 2W938C607BE will work on my Jag just fine but
dealer told me that it's won't and that I need C2P16825 for $700 or else.

Guys, please make some sense what is what because when I look for
either of part ## another would come up as alternative.

Thanks

Would you consider an aftermarket fan at far less cost?

Aftermarket (meaning a new) or used one?
In any even... sure, what you have to offer?

Sorry that is not what I meant.

There are many different types of electric radiator fans available which I am suggesting might be a realistic and far less expensive alternative to Jaguar OEM.

Well, that would be wishful thinking hardly shared by Jag's parts dept.
If they themselves don't know which parts are interchangeable, and if
C2P16825 is the same as XR852101 and/or 2W938C607BE but most
important which years of Jags it will fit, I doubt that there are anyone
in aftermarket fields would try to make sense where there is none.

Of course its a no go if you do not do your own wrenching.

Hopefully someone will help with your original question.

Hi jagxjr,

The great thing about living in the Internet age is that we don't have to be held hostage to the dealer parts department, although in my experience the Jaguar parts professionals do their very best to be helpful.

According to the Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC), which you can download from this forum and install on your own computer, here is the progression of part numbers for the cooling fan/cowl assembly for an '04 XJR:

XR847967, superseded to

XR852101, superseded to

C2P9525, superseded to

C2P16825

Since the EPC version available to us is not necessarily current on all part number supersessions, I always check the latest part number at jaguarmerriamparts.com or gaudinjaguarparts.com, the websites of two Jaguar dealers that sell at discount prices online.

According to jaguarmerriamparts.com, C2P16825 is the current part number for either an XJR or XJ8, and their discounted price is $570.52:

https://www.jaguarmerriamparts.com/p...iagram=4725055

Jaguar does not offer the fan motor separately, but as jackra_1 suggests, it may be possible to source a motor if you can identify the manufacturer. It was likely made by one of the major OEMs such as Behr, Gate, Johnson Electric, Visteon, Denso, Marston, Maier, etc.

Regarding the part number 2W938C607BE, it looks like a Ford number. I searched it at jaguarmerriamparts.com but it does not return any results. Using google, that number turns up several eBay listings for Jaguar fan/cowl assemblies from XJs and S-Types, suggesting that this number appears on the part itself. It's possible that this was the number applied by the manufacturer, who is probably a Ford OEM, and that the Jaguar part number is, as the dealer told you, C2P16825.

By the way, you didn't tell us why you need to replace your fan. If it isn't functioning, perhaps it could be repaired.

Cheers,

Don

Hi Don, thanks for all that valuable information

Starting with last point.
One day I have noticed that temperature needle went into red zone and few
second later steam cover all my car. Apparently one of hoses burst and next
week another and then 2 weeks later rad itself got busted.

So, even thou rad was leaking with enough water car was drivable and
temperature needle would stay in the middle except when I would stuck in
traffic but as soon car moves, needle would go back to normal.

To make it short, mechanic found that fan wouldn't turn on when needle
is in red. All fuses in working condition

Temperature censer is working and last year I have replaced water pump
and thermostat which left us with conclusion that module inside fan's motor
is busted. We have tried to power up fan directly but because of module is
part of circuit, we had no lack.

Idea to fix it is very attractive if that is doable

To prove it's the module I'd get a used one.

That is what my wife said but after she spend 1 hour in front of computer
calling every miniscule lead, she just gave up because no one would sale them
separately from complete fan assembly or motor. BTW, what if used one would
come from fan with the same problem I have?

Now, maybe you know where to find used and lucky enough to get working one,
I'm giving up

Check with our forum sponsors SNG Barratt, Coventry West, and Jagbits, and also try Welsh Enterprises. One of them may be able to save you some money.

C2P16825 Is correct for your VIN.
Unfortunately we do not have any separate components but we could supply this for $497 + shipping. Let me know if of interest.

A new hose assembly that fits to the bottom of the coolant reservoir is in the $50 range I believe and that would have two metal clips plus good "O" rings.

You would then have one spare clip from your old hose assembly.

Thank you Williams for offer but I have took my chances and bought
complete used fan on eBay for $90 (no kidding) including shipment.

So for now I'm good but I will keep your contact in my short list.
