Default Phone reception in XJ

Has anyone experienced or noticed diminished phone signals or interference in their XJ compared to their other vehicles? I always attributed my bad phone signals to bad coverage areas when in my '05 VDP and never questioned the car until a friend of mine noticed that every time he rides in my car, his new Iphone 4 makes a bad ticking noise while on a call. This only happens when he is in my car. I started comparing the reception in my car vs my suburban (in the same areas) and there is a noticeable difference between the two.
Maybe I should start checking for FBI bugs.

The ticking noise with iphone 4's was discussed last week:

No problems here in the UK with the phone that came with the car in 2003, nor with the wife's or my phone handheld in the car.

You have probably considered this but then, sometimes the obvious is often overlooked. Does your car have window tint? If it does it may be that the tint is the metallic type rather than the ceramic type. Something that the 04 XJ owners manual specifically cautions against because of the potential degradation of radio and phone reception.

I heard on the news that there was an issue with the iPhone reception. They were working on a fix for it.

Tried a little expereiment. My Blackberry Storm2, no ticking. My wife's Blackberry 9xxx, nothing. My friends Palm Pre, nothing. My sons Android something or other, nothing. Another friends iPhone4, click, click, click. Sounds like the phone to me. He also claims he has a click in his 05 Audi A8.

iPhone is not shielded very well. I'd be afraid to place it near my head to talk on it!!

Stop the calls ... we have a winner.
Both XJs and Audi A8 have one thing in common. A body made of aluminum. I believe that mobile phone waves are not being able to escape or enter the body of the car with the same ease as aluminum tends to absorb the waves. That is my opinion and it was backed by a scientist I know (well at least he said maybe) ... what do you think?
