Default Power Window Issue after Battery Disconnect - Resolved

Last night I disconnected the battery as some have suggested to reset some of the computer settings and hopefully keep the car from having some electrical gremlins. When I hooked everything back up it seems everything works as it used to except my power windows.

The auto down function works, but the auto up does not. Does anyone know if this is a programmable option somewhere or if there is a manual reset sequence I can perform?

Did you retrain them?
All the way down, hold 5 secs, all the way up, hold 5 secs

I read this and realized I had disconnected my battery the other night. I checked and sure enough, no auto windows. Took about 2 minutes to retrain all of them.

Also, if you don't re-train the windows, they won't close when you hold down the lock button on the remote i.e. Global Closing. Found that our the hard way a few days ago...

Default Windows 'Trained'

Thanks for the info...

After a battery disconnect for tire rotation, auto-up and global-up failed.

Windows 'trained'.

Forum saves the day!!

^x3. I just worked on my clock spring & retrained the windows. Where can I send a few dollars to support the board?

Default Global Up

05 XJ8-L - Should I have the global up? I disconnected the battery when it was stored for the winter - The auto up and down both work as does the global down. To "retrain" them, I assume I do the 5 second down and up to all windows?

Thanks

Does "the auto down function" mean something other than "press the lever down and the window goes down"?

Just that you do not have to keep the lever pressed down all the time the window needs to lower completely, you press it for a moment, leave it and the window goes down all the way by itself.

Best regards,

Thomas

Depends on where you are. Global up is disabled by default in the US.

My US-spec 2007 has auto-up on all four doors and global up from the door key. By "all four doors," I mean at the door switch, not just from the driver's switch; all passengers have auto-down and auto-up of their windows.

Auto up and auto down mean you push the window button once and it rolls all the way up or down. Global up or down means you put one button on the key fob and all the windows and the sunroof roll up or down. Nhtsa does not allow Global up in the US because they say it can be dangerous if you walk away from the car and then hit the button. The window might roll up on somebody's hand or head or something stupid like that. However, your Jaguar does have the feature and it can be enabled with a module programmer. I enabled mine with a WDS computer and disabled the global down. Someone may have enabled yours, but technically it's not legal.

I don't know about from the remote, that may well be disabled, but I can close all the windows and the sunroof with the key in the door, which is what I meant by global up. I'm not sure I even knew it could be available on the remote. If enabled, would it be started just by holding the lock button?

Yes, that's right, and global opening would be by holding the unlock button.

Best regards,

Thomas

you should be able to hold the unlock button down and after a second or two all the windows should roll down and the sunroof should open. I never found a situation where I thought that would be useful. And the day I leaned on the key when it was in my pocket at work and then went out 2 hours later after it had been raining and found all my windows down and the sunroof open is the day I disabled it.
