Default Question about "Engineering Mode"

I think that's what someone here called it. Anyway, I tried with my 2004 XJ8. Couldn't get anything by pressing and holding the Trip button and turning the ignition key from position 1 to 2. Is that how it is supposed to work?

I did discover the following:

Pressing and holding the MI/km button and turning the key allows you to set the language for the display. Pressing MI/km cycles through several languages, including Japanese.

Pressing and holding the A/B switch and turning the key brings up some diagnostic info. Pressing A/B cycles through the screens. Here's what I got on mine:

VIN: 62
2W9F 10849 AJ 000
67-05-1C-00
ROM: 0121 NVM: 01

So, win some, lose some, I guess.

I didn't understand much from your post.

Do you not have NAV? I think you can get a bit of information from the NAV screen, and change languages (at least for the NAV screen itself).

Sorry for that. There was a thread here last week about putting the display on the instrument cluster in some sort of engineering mode by pressing and holding the Trip button on the left lever of the steering column, and at the same time, turning the ignition key from position 1 to position 2. It looked interesting so I thought I would try it on mine. I also found references to the same procedure on the UK X350 Jaguar forum.

It didn't work on my 2004 XJ8. So, since I was already there, I decided to try the process with various other buttons. I posted my results, which was the ability to change the language of the display (again, I'm assuming instrument cluster display), as well as some rudimentary diagnostic information.

No, I don't have NAV/touchscreen.

I was mainly interested in confirming that I was indeed performing the apparently undocumented feature properly.

Does that help any?

Haha yeah, I saw that thread after I read this one and now it makes more sense. I will give it a shot on my '06. If it was capable of giving individual pressure readings, how would I be able to cycle through them?

Haha, it would be cool to rig up the tire pressure sensors to the air suspension shocks to see which springs are failing!

Perhaps by repeatedly pressing the Trip button?
