I have just bought a 2004 xjr and the rear number plate fill plate is cracked. I’m looking for advice on how to remove this panel with the goal of repairing it or fitting a replacement. Any relevant suggestions would be welcomed.
Buy a replacement. Will break more when you remove it
I just replaced mine about 6 months ago on my 2004. I tried to remove the old broken one and it broke into a million pieces like glass. I ordered a new one from here.
Here is a picture of the replacement part. It comes with all the clips and everything. All you need to do is transfer your chrome bits and tag light etc. I also drilled pilot holes to reinstall my license plate so it wouldn't crack again. Replacement panel from Jaguar.

So is that dark grey/black bit a 'Rear Fill Panel'?
The plastic fairings on motorcycles can often be repaired.
Using a soldering iron, to melt the back side, where the pieces join.
Then mix plenty of acetone, with small bits of P V C or fileings.
To make a slurry, then fill in the joint, using plenty of acetone.
Adding some fiberglass cloth for strength, helps out a lot.
