Default Reliable year?

Now I am looking at a 2004 XJ8 with 99K on it. Car seems to be in very good condition. I am hoping that it won't turn into a money pit like my BMW 740il did.

Opinions? Is this one of the better years? I know it has alot of updates from the older body style of 2003, like more head & leg room along with the 4.2 liter engine & 6 speed trans.

The price is crazy low ($6995.) and I am hoping the buyer for my BMW pays me before it is sold.

I really like my XK8 and want another Jag. They have so much style and grace.

The X350 is a realible car from the start if it was serviced propertly. The important thing is that you have service records to prove it. The air ride compressor is a known throw away service item and the suspension bushings seem to wear faster then most cars, move with wheels over 18"s. The rest is normal as with any high tech high end car.

At that mileage, without a service history, you know the routine well enough to plan on spending $$ on tranny service, brake and power steering fluid flush, belt and plugs.

Be sure you inspect/test the suspension good, as pointed out above. Look for those bushings and ball joints that add up quickly if you need to do those as well if you get this car.

I consider trans service, Tune up, Belts, Fluids, Filters, etc just normal stuff. I am concrned about the not normal stuff. Bad timing chains, bad transmissons, Rears etc. The problems that seem to follow the older cars.

Thank you to everyone for all the help.

Can I suggest you approach a jaguar dealer with the VIN and ask for a copy of history of the vehicle? This might give you some confidence to buy the car.

They might refuse if you don't own the car but worth a try?

My 2003 x350 has been very reliable for 5 years, now has 55,000 miles
