Has anyone relocated the factory sirius control unit from the black facia into a stock ashtray unit? I want to keep the factory sirius unit but hate the black facia. I want to hide the unit in a stock ashtray with cover, but dont know if there is enough room under there. Would be nice to know before I purchase a ashtray unit, and pull the console. With the A/C unit in the center console pulling it apart only to find out that it wont fit would be a PIA.

Also relocating it would keep me from turning it off every time I start the car just to keep from seeing the control unit lit up when not listening to sirius. Is there a way to keep the controler from powering up every time I start the car?

I do realize that relocating it may affect the IR signal from the remote, but I dont use the remote anyway. My pasengers have way too much control of things from the back as it is. (I make the payments, HA)

 

It is quite possible to do. The head unit will actually sit in the opening where the ashtray insert goes. It will give you the ability to close the lid & not even see the unit. I think I have a few ashtray assemblies if you are interested.
