Default Replacing the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Questions - 2007 XJR, Code P0193

Hi all,

I have on 07 XJR and a couple months ago the check engine light came on in response to code P0193 - Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit High Track. I heard the most likely culprit is a faulty FRP sensor, so I ordered one (Eurospar part from Ebay, pictured below - even though it's called a "fuel regulator" and not a "sensor"...?) and will be replacing it myself with my limited mechanic skills. I have the process planned out, and some pics below, and I'd like to know if I have it right:

1. Pull the fuel pump fuse and start the car until it dies to relieve the pressure in the fuel rail
2. Disconnect the battery
3. Remove the cowl/ cover under the wipers (circled in yellow in the pics below) to gain access to the FRP sensor (circled in red).
4. Disconnect the wire harnessess/ connectors (circled in blue) to gain access to the the left bolt connecting the FRP sensor onto the rail
5. Put rags under the sensor to collect any fuel that spills
6. Disconnect the wires to the sensor and the vacuum hose
7. Remove the 2 bolts holding the sensor to the fuel rail and remove the sensor
8. Put some dielectric grease on the new sensor's o-rings and bolt it on to the fuel rail
9. Reconnect everything and pray.

Is anything missing from this list? Or anything I should take special care of? And what about that bundle of wires over the sensor (circled in blue below), anything I should know about those before I just start disconnecting them and moving them out of the way? And is dielectric grease a good choice? I've heard others say to use motoroil on the orings to create a seal as well.

Any advice or help would be appreciated. Thanks! -P

I was chasing that code for a while in my 04 XJ8. I ended up putting in three different FRP sensors. I would highly recommend getting the Ford part number. I purchased them from FCP Euro (two different ones) and finally purchased the Ford-stamped one. Once the Ford stamped one was installed, I cleared the code, and it has never come back.

Easy change, but it can be a headache without the correct part.

Best of luck!

Thank you for the reply - I couldn't find the Ford stamped exact replacement so I had to choose between a handful of unstamped sensors/ regulators. Did you get your Ford sensor recently? Any chance you can let me know where you got it? Good to know that it might have to be the EXACT same replacement... but what a PITA to have to keep buying, installing, uninstalling and returning the parts over and over until you get it right!

Total PITA, but it has been good for three years! This is the PN I used. I purchased it from my local Ford dealer, but I bet you can get from online. This is what worked for my NA 4.2.

From your photo (the last one), I can see it is stamped "Ford" followed by the number in parentheses, so please double-check that my provided PN and yours are the same.

Best of luck!

Part #: CM5258 (3R3Z9F972AB)

Thank you for the part number! I will have a look for it. My sensor just arrived in the mail so let's see how this goes. And when you changed your, did you pull the fuel pump fuse to and run the car until it died to dissipate the pressure in the fuel rail? And disconnect the battery? Or nah?

Thanks again, P
