Retaining steering wheel control switches
This is for my 2008 XJ8 X358.
I replaced the basic OEM CD player stereo (there was no CD changer, DVD player, Navigation nor amplifier in the trunk) with a Pioneer 9" Android Auto and Apple CarPlay DMH-WT3800NEX.
Thanks to previous threads in this Forum, the following items saved me a bunch of time: Metra 70-9500 20 pin harness and Metra 99-9501B Dash Kit.
And in order to retain the steering wheel control switches, I installed the AXXESS ASWC-1.
The ASWC-1 does not work properly when the engine is running with headlights on. In my my 08 XJ8 X358, the steering wheel control switches illuminate when the headlights are on, and the ASWC-1 gets lost. Some buttons won't work when the headlights are on. I believe there is a change of resistance when the steering wheel control switches get illuminated. I've tried to manually program the ASWC-1 with the headlights off, headlights on, engine running. The ASWC-1 behaves differently in each combination. I have also tried the PAC SWI-RC1 with no luck.
Has anyone had luck with the ASWC-1 when the steering wheel control switches illuminate?
PS. I've read about different products sold in the UK; Autoleads box and Connect2 unit. Has anyone tried them or know if they can be purchased here in the USA?
