Question Sat nav - dvd

Now here's a question :-
I have a Japanese Import 2004 XJ8.
I have a European DVD that won't play/load.
The only language options I have are American English or Japanese, which I am guessing are of a different format to UK.
I know some others have said forget the Jaguar SAT NAV and get TomTom/use Google Maps on phone.
The thing is, if the car has this feature, I want to be able to use it.
So, does anyone know of an American English DVD with EuropeanUK maps exists?

you will need to reprogram the audio control module via IDS/SDD to the required geographical location .
trust me an iphone does a far better job at being a sat nav .
if your car came with an out dated bulky dial up maxwell smart shoe phone would you use that instead of your iphone ?

I fully understand your point, but I wouldn't touch an iphone with a bargepole being a Samsung man,
However, I am a pedantic Samsung man, so I just want the in-car SatNav to work
So please, what is IDS/SDD?
Thanks in anticipation.

understood, enjoy your bugs and glitches ,LOL
IDS/sdd is the factory dealer diagnostic computer . its unlikely the dealer will ulter this for you .
but it would be worth an ask .

JEPC lists 2 (non TV) categories of Navigation screen and 2 categories of Navigation module for the X350. The different options are:
1. Japan
2. Except Japan

You have more than a software challenge to make this work and SDD re-programming with incompatible hardware can be a shortcut to disaster.

I'm with Stupid :-)
My ex-Jap car has nav working, but I'm NZ so can't help with UK, and a Jag dealer did it.
Only the Jaguar telephonic communicator doesn't work. Edit: and the TV damn lol.

that is interesting .
mine is a ex japan car ,i do not know the nav part no#s in my car .or if it was swapped
but i can confirm it was reprogrammed with australasia software for NZ .
the last owner told me he had it all done by the jag dealer . as the dealer was the importer of this car .so i expect they felt obliged to do so .
i replaced the factory japan minidisk head unit recently with a uk CD head unit . and i had to reprogram it again myself with IDS. not to tricky . i believe mine is still japan equipment bar the single CD.
as it has all short cuts blocked , such as the ability to short cut the security code with FFD/CDC/PTY .
and swapping countries via CD eject /AM/FM is also locked .
also you can change things via hidden menu 1971 , but on restart it reverts back to the original programing . unlike what i have seen on youtube for usa and uk .

when i program mine to japan software it only had JP UK US there was no aus option,
and was locked and could not change them via the touch screen or 1971. but when i program it to australasia via IDS i have these options

its still locked via touch screen and 1971 though , but to the one i chose in IDS .
so it can only be changed via IDS .

beware if you program to certain counties it may then require the factory code if the power is disconnected .
and the short cut (FFD/CDC/PTY) does not work .
but you can just reprogram again to get around this . or chose a near by country that does not require it .

at first i read this thread and was bitterly disappointed .

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ing-sdd-65092/

very pleased to say -
NOW i know the info that was concerning , is not correct for the X-type/S-type and x350/358 . .the thread had been hijacked by an XK owner .
and post two was relevant .
